This seems almost too good to be true. However, it can go either to a free market system, as we would like to see in this country again, or to a kleptocracy, as we see in Russia or China.

Even a Chinese style kleptocracy is paradise compared to what NK has now.

“Trade zones” in NK are routinely looted.
Good luck to Chinese investors...

They already have a “trade zone” where South Korean companies have factories. “Trade Zones” is not a market economy.

I have read accounts of North Koreans crossing the Yalu River into China, they do think it’s amazing. heh. If they went directly to Seoul, they might get culture shock.

It looks to me more like one set of corrupt morons will take leadership of the economy away from a different set of corrupt morons.

Good luck to the Chinese in any venture with the Norks. They once send a train load of emergency food supplies to NK and the Norks kept the train.

When do we see the first Apple factory there. NK would be even cheaper than China. We have to have that iPhone 6 or 7!

If true, that’s probably good news for the North Korean people. A little Deng Xiaoping style economic reform is better than continuing their Stalinist nightmare.

North Korea to try their version of Lenin's New Economic Policy (NEP). Hey, Deng Xiaoping did it for China.. the North Korean Communists want to be millionaires and billionaires too, ya know.

Those stupid Russians in Lenin's time let the masses become wealthy using free markets to build the economy and save the Revolution.. the Leninist ideologues had to put an end to NEP to save the Revolution from the Nepmen. The Soviet commies should have let Party members accumulate the wealth like Chi-Coms have done.

His love for jazz, etc. might have contributed to this. Or his jealousy of Samsung TV’s and Hyundai Equus - but I really think what pushed him over the edge in envy was “GANGNAM!”

To have a market economy you need to have the production of goods and services market wants to buy and a market that has the money to buy those goods and services. I see that as two major problems for North Korea.
