How can this be true? The enthusiasm gap was with the democrats big in '08 and the opposite is supposedly true today! Either the polls are that wrong or the nation has become stupider since 2008 and WAY stupider since 2010.

I believe you are correct on both counts. This nation wants an American Idol for their leader. It is shown week after week - the clown snubs our only democratic ally in the Middle East and runs to the View and Lettermen and his polls still have him in the lead.
Mittens can still win, but he have to go head to head with the clown unless he wants to lose like McLame.

Popular culture, chronic unemployment, and apathy have made us a very UNSERIOUS nation. The libs and Dims have finally succeeded.

I think you have to take into account that these are two very different elections. Romney has been absolutely pummeled by the media the last three weeks and the fact that he is even in the hunt at this point is a minor miracle and show that a percentage of Obama’s support is “soft” and could swing back to Romney after a good debate showing and a good news and ad cycle.

This nation wants an American Idol for their leader. I'm afraid you are correct, and I'm even more afraid that Karl Rove and his ilk figured this out long ago....but can't find an American "Idle" conservative candidate to pump since it's kind of an oxymoron.
Conservatism works, but it doesn't win elections.
IF Reagan had run as a Democrat in 1976 he could've beaten Ford.
Imagine the villification we'd be getting if Gingrich or Saintorum or Bachmann had won.

I agree that they would be vilified. But they are all three more conservative than Mittens..and would provide a sharper contrast for voters to pick from. And SANtorum was the best of the three.

Yeah, but we’re looking at 49/46 or whatever, from the most optimistic pollster in Ras, etc.
So who of those 49 for Obama would switch to Santorum?
And of the 46 for Mittens. How many of these would balk at his social stands?
I’d guess Obama/Santorum right now we’d be down 57/39 in the same polls.

This nation wants an American Idol for their leader. The last time the right had an American Idol candidate, it was the "terminator" for governor of California.
FAIL
Prior to that Reagan who was a winner.
The only way for a republican to win is a national crisis or after eight dreadful years of a democrat.

The America that I grew up in will NOT exist after four more years of this Marxist Dictator. We already are in a "post Constitutional" era and one of lawlessness openly practiced by this administration.

Something to take into account is the RCP average included polls that heavily oversample Dems and I don’t remember stories about polls oversampling Dems in 2008
