A new poll finds that Mitt Romney's secretly recorded comments about the "47 percent" of Americans who do not pay taxes did more to turn voters off than President Obama's "You didn't build that" remark at a campaign rally in Virginia.
According to a survey released Tuesday night by NBC News and The Wall Street Journal, 45 percent of voters said Romney's comments at a private fundraiser gave them a negative impression of the candidate. Alternatively, 23 percent said the comment gave them a more positive review of the candidate.
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what, Romney says in video from the event, made public by Mother Jones. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to healthcare, to food, to housing, to you name it.
Romney adds his "job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.
By contrast, voters actually had a positive impression of Obama's "you didn't build that" line during a rally in Roanoke, Va. Some 36 percent of respondents said they had a positive reaction to the comment, versus 32 percent who reported a negative reaction.
"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you've got a business you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," the president said in July.

Romney insulted hard-working Americans who don't happen to make enough to pay federal income tax.
Romney insulted more good Americans than Obama did. Entrepreneurs work hard and are entitled to the fruit of their labor, but they are not the only hard workers in our land.
Elitist class warfare is just as ugly and unfair as the leftist variety and a whole lot less effective in winning elections. If Romney doesn't reverse the impression he gave in the 47 percent remark, he will surely lose.
Since there is no 47%, his statement made no sense.
Only problem is that claim is a complete and total lie.
BS
You will not get it because the claim is a lie.

As the data below show, incomes reported by tax returns at the high end of the income spectrum fell from 2008 to 2009, as did their share of the nation’s income and income taxes paid. In 2009, the top 1 percent of tax returns paid 36.7 percent of all federal individual income taxes and earned 16.9 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI),
More people have heard about 47% than can actually name the Vice President. (They’ve heard of Palin of course)
More people have heard about the 47% than the crimes of Fast & Furious, the cover-up of Benghazi, and every other crime of the Obama Administration.
Does anyone in the Leftist Media have any sense of shame at totally failing at their jobs? Anyone?
This won’t end well.
And after all the smoke clears, the members of the media will be hunted down like Nazi war criminals.
ilgipper. My comment was directed at SINK who wrote the article.
I’m with ya...but unless the system changes and the only way we can do it is by working from within and not being sucked to the dark side, we are stuck supporting not the guy we love but the guy who isn’t the a**hole ruining the country.
Alot of people here just don't get it, or maybe don't want to get it. There isno Romney landslide coming. There is an 0bama landslide coming. Obama is going to be re-elected easily.
This is not your fathers America. We are different now. Obama’s Socoialist message reasonates with more people than a Conservative message these days. People want it easy now. A Conservative message of hard work paying off doesn't sit well. People want guarantees, not hard work. They want to hear they will be taken care of. Obama does this. He makes a lot of people feel good with his freebies. More than half this country is gettin some kind of government benefit now and the people want more.
It sucks, but it has happened already. The country was lost in 2008 and there is no going back. Look for essentially the same results as 2008 except 0bama maybe picks up Missouri as well.
Only hope is the true red states secede.
I thought as much as I was privy to your data. Thanks
