The amount that was seized represents only a fraction of the 10,000-barrel, $20-million amount stolen in August. The warehouse that was targeted in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford, about 160 km northeast of Montreal, contained 16,000 45-gallon barrels of syrup.
How is 16,000 a fraction of 10,000. What I see is that this maple syrup federation engages in stockpiling in order to drive the prices up. Over time these massive stockpiles have to be gotten rid of in order maintain the illusion of scarcity. Scam.

I guess it exists to guard against existential threats posed by OoMSEC (Organization of Maple Syrup Exporting Countries).

Sounds like another caper by the Butterworth cartel.

This is causing quite a flap, Jack.
If the thieves are from Quebec , they are French toast now.
If it had been stolen in wintertime, the trucks would have moved very slowly, easier to catch.
Suzette, it sounds like a bunch of crepe to me.

The article mentions a strategic reserve... of maple syrup. Is this for real?

"...Quebec produces up to 80% of the world's maple syrup every year..."Hmmm - I didn't know that! I thought Ontario was the largest producer.

Saw another thread here the other day about a world pork shortage. Have you ever tried doing a ham on the BBQ and using maple syrup as a glaze? Awesome (and I don’t use that word too loosely). I don’t know, I saw “maple syrup” and “pork” within a couple of days of each other and my conspiracy alarm went off.
