The Turkish army attacked several targets in Syria on Wednesday evening, officials in Ankara confirmed.

The incident, the first of its kind since the uprising against Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad began in March of 2011, came several hours after a mortar shell fired from Syria exploded on Turkish territory and killed five people.

“Our military forces, operating in the border area, responded this evening to the criminal attack that took place earlier today,” said a statement from the office of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

“We used artillery fire against the targets and a hit was detected,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, AFP reported that NATO, in an emergency meeting Wednesday, backed Turkey and called on Syria to respect international law.

"The Alliance continues to stand by Turkey and demands the immediate cessation of such aggressive acts against an Ally and urges the Syrian regime to end flagrant violations of international law," a statement said after the meeting was called at Ankara's request.

Why is Turkey still in NATO? Just to drag NATO into their border skirmishes with Syria, and from there into another Libya?

Back when NATO was meant to be a defensive alliance, preventing a soviet attack in europe, it made sense for Turkey to be a member to bottle up the Black Sea.

Now NATO is an aggressive expansionist entity that grows larger every year, and drags us into European and islamic BS. And worst of all, it subjects US forces to the “leadership” of other NATO countries. Basically, it’s a way now for europe to access American military power.

Turkey itself increasingly represents a threat to Europe, and now Europe must defend Turkey from what? These attacks are designed to draw NATO in, just like the attacks on the Golan are meant to draw Israel in. That way, Assad can look like he’s defending Syria from an external threat, and call the rebels foreign agents.

So sure, NATO. It’s a nice, juicy worm. Pay no attention to the barbed hook. Have a bite. Let’s start WW III the same way WW I was started, through terminal stupidity.

If the Syrian rebels win, they’ll slaughter every Christian who can’t escape to Lebanon or beyond. That includes Iraqi Christian refugees, who are facing a sort of double jeopardy!

The muslim Turk wants to use NATO to drag us and Europe into its anti-Christian scam. The Turk has always been one of our very worst enemies, and is behind a great deal of the “Bosnian” and “Kosovar” nonsense in the Balkans.

Abolish NATO! Abolish obama and Hillary! PHOOEY to the muslim Turk, and to all its little muslim cronies!!!!

Or at least boot Turkey out of NARO and keep it around to protect Europe against an Islamic states assault. Allies don’t help rogue states harm other allies.

“We used artillery fire against the targets and a hit was detected,” said the statement.

That's the beauty of artillery... the shells usually hit the ground.
