Dejected and depressed, Chris Matthews on the verge of a week-long drunk

"I don't know what he was doing out there. He had his head down, he was enduring the debate rather than fighting it. Romney, on the other hand, came in with a campaign. He had a plan, he was going to dominate the time, he was going to be aggressive, he was going to push the moderator around, which he did effectively, he was going to relish the evening, enjoying it," Matthews said.

"Here's my question for Obama: I know he likes saying he doesn't watch cable television but maybe he should start. Maybe he should start. I don't know how he let Romney get away with the crap he throughout tonight about Social Security," Matthews complained.

Matthews then demanded that President Obama start watching cable news, specifically his program.

"Where was Obama tonight? He should watch -- well, not just Hardball, Rachel, he should watch you, he should watch the Reverend Al [Sharpton], he should watch Lawrence. He would learn something about this debate. There's a hot debate going on in this country. You know where it's been held? Here on this network is where we're having the debate," Matthews said.

"We have our knives out," Matthews said, admitting his network is trying their best to defend Obama and his policies. "We go after the people and the facts. What was he doing tonight? He went in their disarmed."

"What was Romney doing?" Matthews asked. "He was winning."

Lots of complaints that Romney’s torrent of “lies” came to fast for the messiah to handle.

Tonight's debate made clear that Obama is just too brilliant, talented, knowledgeable and, overall superior, to deal with the lowly likes of a Mitt Romney.

>>Sure says a lot about mccain don’t it? When a mild little lamb like mitt can wup the ass of the guy that ruined mccain

Not that I’m defending McLame (I held my nose and voted for Palin), but I think that it was easier for Zippy to talk big in 2008. He had the advantage of no personal record and was running against Bush. This time around, Zippy has a record. It’s a record he has to run away from. Pretty hard to do that.

Romney needs to keep on offense, and keep Zippy on defense. He needs to do this in a way that makes him look strong, intelligent, competent, and forceful while not looking like a bully. I think he accomplished just exactly that tonight.

I have to say, I was surprised at how well Mitt carried himself.
He did an EXCELLENT job of telling why he would be a better president.

He had his head down, he was enduring the debate rather than fighting it...because people like you, Chris, have been treating him like royalty for so long, he doesn't feel as though he should have to be there - he resents being forced, finally, to have to answer hard questions and it showed......

I have to admit I was SO worried that Mitt would lose the debate but he came out firing on all cylinders it was great to see..meanwhile Obama kept his head down almost the entire time, wouldn’t even look at Romney(Which was VERY disrespectful) and kept on begging Lehrer for help, the “Can we just move on” statement was the quote of the night

Presidentin' is haaaard...

That was obama's message last night.

My question is what blows up in the ME and the economy in the next 30 days or so.

He can't win on merit (competence). Something's gonna blow...

Chris Matthews sounded like the dejected but defiant and very drunken Lord Haw Haw broadcasting to the West during the last days of the Nazi Reich.

http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/vohawhaw.htm

On the night of April 30, 1945, a drunken Joyce made his last broadcast from Hamburg as British troops entered the city. With his adopted world crashing down around him, but still committed to the Nazi cause, Joyce rambled on through his farewell speech. In Berlin, Hitler was simultaneously saying good-bye to his entourage in anticipation of ending his life a few hours later.

Captured by the British, Joyce stood trial for treason. The court denied his claim of American citizenship because he held a British passport. He was found guilty and hanged on January 3, 1946.
