I’m amazed that 70 million tuned in for a debate last night in a race the media had all but declared over.

What amazes me is that even the 2008 election when everybody fawned over Obama did not have this many viewers. I mean....just wow...

And this is a good point I noticed on another site, but the first debate is the most important. Even if Obama were to “win” later, there will probably be fewer viewers.

More importantly, however, is the fact that Obama really wants podiums at debates. He prefers the traditional format, but the next debate will be a mixture of foreign/domestic policy and be in a town hall format.

It will be very hard for Obama to be tough on Romney without appearing like an ass in a town hall style venue.

And the final debate will be just foreign policy, likely meaning even fewer viewers.

If Obama did decide to hold back last night, it may have been a fatal error for him.

Reagan came back from his first debate troubles against Mondale, as did Bush against Kerry. But they were not demolished like Obama was last night.

One thing about Reagan was that he was a gifted communicator, so that first performance could easily be overcome.

With W, he actually had a good economy and a personal touch to combat Kerry’s aloof attitude with.

Obama has neither the ability to communicate without a machine nor a warm personality (see angry Obama tape).

What’s the crowd doing? Is it going wild, or reserved?

I googled for the crowd size.

The “facility” is outdoors at the country fairgrounds.

Traffic was backed up for some miles as people tried to get in.

The expected crowd was 10,000.

The estimated actual crowd was 15,000.

This info came from a variety of online sources but does not involve national media like AP but local media.

That’s why we’re able to find out anything, and trust its accuracy. Local sources.

The crowd was very enthusiastic. Sorry, don’t know what “going wild” means. It most definitely was not “reserved”.

>> who can tell us what the crowd size is? <<

Ryan said last night on Hannity’s 9 pm EDT show that the crowd numbered 12,000, after which Hannity made a very snarky reply about the TV show’s having 4 million viewers.

(Hannity did seem quickly to realize — although too late — that his remark had been inappropriate. I don’t know, however, if he later made an actual apology.)

Yep, as somebody once said, “First impressions are lasting.”

I heard Paul Ryan say about 12,000 or so. Great turnout.

Indeed they were about 1 hour late getting started, but the Hannity interview was good, and yes, I heard Sean say the 4 million viewers statement. ugh. He should NOT have said that. O’Reilly can eat your heart out. hawww. Bloviate this, Bill. Sean got the interview.

Good crowd and now today we see a miracle in the unemployment numbers (totall lies) and that every Dem operative is flat out calling Mittens a LIAR! Just like a 10 year old on the playground. This won’t fly. Sticks and stones...... come on Mitt - keep up with the style we saw in the debate!

It’s how you tell who’s winning. The winning side is all pumped up and breaking out into spontaneous hoots, rebel yells and chanting. The losing side truly wants something to hoot, yell and chant about, and they try to fan any ember into a flame, but something’s just missing. They laugh at the jokes, they smile at the spin of the candidate, and then they fall silent again. In their eyes, you can see the mourning in advance and the desperation that never meets satisfaction. They are true believers, who’ve seen the leaks in the ship and want terribly to save it, but it keeps going lower and lower, and they don’t want to admit to anyone, least of all themselves, that the captain is out of touch with reality, so they look for anything to give them hope, and are always disappointed. You can see it in their eyes. Obama’s speech about how he wasn’t debating the real Romney had nothing but these true believers in the audience, and the sad look on their eyes as they forced their laughs and cheers was music to my eyes:-)

From my Charlottesville friend who attended the rally: “ my daughter and I had to walk a mile and a half to get to the rally. Traffic was jammed up and the place was oversold. It was at least 30 percent bigger than obama’s rally in Charlottesville.”

Excuse me, you say ROMNEY had nothing but people in the audience who had sad looks in their eyes and forced reactions? Did you mean Obama, not Romney?

Let me try to clear this up...”going wild” as you put it, vs being “reserved” was not my choice of words to describe what was going on at the Romney/Ryan rally in Fishersville, VA. The word I chose was, the crowd was very enthusiastic.

And that enthusiasm was a foregone conclusion, even before they arrived. People weren’t bused in, individuals in their own vehicles were streaming in from miles around and backed up traffic a long way. You don’t do that, just barely after WORK on a Thursday evening, if you aren’t already jazzed. Then, Romney/Ryan were delayed in coming out, in part because of an interview they did live with Hannity while the crowd waited. So there was great anticipation and eagerness. And in the meanwhile, Trace Adkins and his band were revving up the crowd with their fantastic music.

Then the NRA’s Wayne LaPierre came out and spoke very emotionally about what an Obama second term would mean to our freedoms. And pointed out that VA is ground zero in this fight. Then a VA House of Delegates member came out and announced that the NRA is officially endorsing Romney/Ryan.

I say all this to say, the crowd of 10-15 thousand was going to be enthusiastic. If not, they wouldn’t have bothered to come.

They are trying to save their country for their children and grandchildren. What’s not to be enthusiastic about??

All that jumping around you depict and call “going wild” is YOUR way of putting it.

Mine is different.

That’s ok.

And I knew they would be enthusiastic before I even saw them, because they cared enough to go to a lot of trouble to turn out. And there were a LOT of them.

People like this are PUMPED. They can’t wait to vote O out, and that means voting R in.

The venue was saying it held 10,000. Local sheriff said they parked 14,000 cars! I was there and could see hundreds walking in the road because there was no more parking. The interstate nearby had a 6 mile backup east bound and 4 miles west bound which those had to turn around and go home. Hope that helps

Excellent news. Always appreciate a first hand report.

I’m excited about the R/R team and hope they pull this off. America is counting on it. We need to do our part.
