Skip to comments.Mitt Romney: I stand with Big Bird (Real Romney petition-not satire)BARF

Big Bird isn't just a big, yellow bird. Every day, millions of children -- including my two sons and my daughter -- tune in to PBS. What they get is programming that teaches them. They learn their letters and numbers, yes. But they also learn about character. About treating one another with dignity and kindness. They learn that it's OK to be different, and to stand up for their friends.
Governor Romney says he likes Big Bird, but he's going to cut PBS anyway. PBS accounts for about 1/100th of 1% (.0012%) of the Federal Budget. It provides high quality educational content for children. It provides important news and information for adults. Cutting PBS won't help solve the budget deficit, but it will contribute to a character and education deficit. It will contribute to a cultural deficit as important news and information programs are taken off the air. It will rob us of some of our most cherished programs and sources of information.

“Hey, Big Bird makes more than I do. He clearly doesn’t understand the problems of average, American children.”
I walk to the post office every day. Sure driving down there isn’t going to break me but it all ads up.
Big Bird et al get MILLIONS in profits. Let THEM support the liberal NPR.
The fact that it is a miniscule fraction of the federal budget has NOTHING to do with the fact that the expenditure is Anti-Constitutional.
Sheesh! These people must think it’s possible to be a little bit pregnant, too.
It’s almost as if, people think NOTHING can survive without government assistance.
Give people a CHANCE to support Big Bird. Maybe, they will.
I was interviewed today on local tv and the clip they showed was me saying that we shouldn’t be borrowing money from China to fund PBS......
wow- so if we get rid of PBS the education system in this nation will go down the crapper??? i mean further down the crapper than it already is despite the gozillions we already spend on education?? got it...
Geez. These people have never been to a toy store. Big Bird and Elmo and the rest have been merchandized for years and have earned enough money to produce 100 Sesame Streets once a day for the next 1,000 years. But the producers of that program, which taxpayers have subsidized and paid to develop, kept the merchandizing rights to those characters for themselves. Taxpayers haven’t gotten a dime back, ever, on their enormous, decades-long investment.
I read on another thread that Big Bird gets $50 Mil a year in profits. They don’t need our money.
Emotion over substance. Liberals love it.
Sesame receives NO government funding. They said so on CNN today. Big Bird is a 1%er
Big Bird is for gay marriage and hates Chick Fil A. I stand with free enterprise.
It's amazing that none of them seem to realize this is no longer the 1960s, and that there are multiple, privately-held, and arguably better media that cater to elementary and pre-school age children of all learning abilities.
Exactly. There’s all kinda crap out there with his face on it, but if the gov’t pulls their teeny share of money, he will be fired? Leftist, please!!
Barney makes even more!
I’ve never heard of big bird but if that is what it looks like, kill it!
“Should the political winds shift in an ugly direction...”
I signed as Big Bird.
“I get no government funding. I AM the 1%”
I’m betting that Elmo is doing pretty good as well. Bert and Ernie have seen better days but if they invested wisely I doubt they’re exactly destitute.
Ok, you got me. How can you possibly not have heard of Big Bird? Did you grow up in the US?
So, Evan, I don’t have any children. Why do you expect me to pay for YOUR children to watch Big Bird?!
Romney should give the Big Bird to Obummer.
That was hilarious!
It ticks me off that they use our tax dollars and make huge profits.
Somehow everybody always appeals to Sesame Street when cutting PBS funding comes up.
How about “All Things Considered,” and the rest of that garbage?
“Did you grow up in the US? “
I’m 5th generation So. Californian and have lived all my 75 years in So. California.
I mean what if Big Bird asked for protection in Libya and our administration refused. Would it be headline news then? Would they care then!? I need to go to another thread before I break something.
I’ve teaching at a small university for 20 years
In that time, I have seen what Sesame Street has wrought on the minds of our children.
Textbooks are no longer text, they are big, bright images with material presented in 30 second clips. Kids don’t have the attention span to actually read an entire chapter in a book without entertaining interruptions,
I HATE what Sesame Street has done to education.
Big Bird needs to get his feathered tail off the dole and out into the job market.
Last time I looked, Children’s Television Workshop collected $47 million in annual licensing royalties. They do not need to be subsidized.
Nor does Amtrak, farmers, Planned Parenthood, green energy and on an on...
Speaking of a robbery.... stop taking my money from me against my will and under threat of force to fund a television station!!!!
Where is that petition?
As Biden says, “The president has a big stick, and you’ll get a Big Bird.”
I’ve BEEN teaching..
See, I blame it on Sesame Street (and my horrible proofing abilities)
Fry Big Bird. His bones can mark the path back to a balanced budget and Constitutional government.
If this dork wants his commie TV, why doesn’t he pay for it? Its not like they don’t take donations.
When her kids are up to their tail feathers in debt financed by China so that they could watch some dumb bird on TeeVee, maybe she will think differently.
When :spit: Barney was on PBS, they were paying Lyons to make the episodes, and not getting a cut of the merchandising bucks.
The President of PBS makes over 600 grand a year, he can pay for Big Bird’s birdseed. Our federal dollars should NOT be spent giving money to a far left network like PBS.
I stand with Romneyon Big Bird's sexually ambiguous neck.
Another liberal dad admits that he ain’t Big Bird.
Romney gave specifics for eliminating govt waste...said he would look for any unnecessary govt spending, starting with things like PBS.
No matter how small a percentage of overall spending it is, all the small things add up to a lot of waste.
And after all these years, PBS and others can either make it or break it, including Big Bird.
Thank you, that was very funny.
