WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years. The rate fell because more people found work, a trend that could impact the presidential election.

AP has a report from six hours ago saying the unemployment rate rose.

The AP report was about the expected rise.

Would someone please tell me. If the employment numbers are so great, why do we have 57.6% of the population on some sort of government assistance? If jobs are plenteous, and people are working, then how are they able to qualify for assistance?

When every economist (that are always wrong to the positive) said the rate was going up to 8.2%, something stinks. BAD.

It is an accounting trick, for sure, but one people no longer receive unemployment they are no longer carried on the rolls of the unemployed. . .therefore, they are no longer counted.

False.

Scanning the other headlines is quite amusing. No one believes the jobs report and UE number. Sad. It’s a given. Understood that they’re lying.

for the first time in a year I turned the channel and watched CNN, MSNBC, yes I felt dirty after.

Seriously , no wonder there are people voting for obama, these networks have no shame about their bias.
CNN was the worst, wow they went over board with a panel saying this is great, bla bla then went on to say how conservatives will say this is not true etc.

Even MSNBC questioned these numbers and so they should, as none of these numbers make any sense at all.

Two surveys done. only 114,00 jobs you need at least 250,000 jobs added for the economy to be alright and yet over 350,000 people filed first time unemployment, YES FIRST TIME and yet the unemployment went this much down when in actual reality it should have tipped up to 8.2.

CNN is running with this as if it were the truth, they have no informed their few viewers at all about how these numbers don't make sense and then they showed obama yesterday calling Romney a liar.

Well if obama felt that it were the truth about getting tax breaks for shipping jobs overseas ten why did he not speak up and debate that to Romey?

BECAUSE OBAMA KNOWS IT IS ALL LIES HE HAS BEEN SAYING but of course the media will have his back and obama will not keep saying the same lies when Romney is not about.

CBS News: “Jobs have been added for 24 straight months. There are now 325,000 more than when Obama took office.”

Yea, but the spin is that "your neighbor" now has a job.

My neighbor lost his job when 0 shut down Dodge dealers that donated to McCain on 2008. He quit looking for jobs and works on his dad's farm.

“Score another one for Rush Limbaugh.”

Rush articulated it, everyone here knew it would happen. The numbers will continue to show improvement right up to election day.

If republicans take over, one of the early things they should do is change the way unemployment figures are arrived at, to show the truth about what a mess was inherited by a new administration.

BLOOMBERG: “The household survey showed an 873,000 increase in employment, the biggest since June 1983, excluding the annual Census population adjustments. Some 582,000 Americans took part- time positions because of slack business conditions or those jobs were the only work they could find.”

There are now 325,000 more than when Obama took office

Wonder what the change in working age population was for the same period? Probably more than 325k.

“RUSH: Well, there’s three levels here. There are people that are looking, there are people that are still looking but have gone beyond their 99 weeks of unemployment, and the third group of people have given up. Those people are not counted in the unemployment number that’s reported.”

agree the GOP has to get every republican and every talking head out today and tell everyone how this is pure crap.

The usual culprits like CNN are running with this and saying how the right wll say this is lies but never reporting the truth about these numbers, Hell even MSNBC questioned this.

So now the media has their talking point and take the attention away from the debates.

This is pure B/S and the GOP had better get ut there and call a press conference about this

I posted what was reported in the data. The main point is that people are trying to correlate the +114K to the 40 bps drop in the UE rate. They are different sets of numbers.

Don't make me post the facts for the umpteenth time. Unemployment compensation, or lack thereof, has no bearing on the calculation of the unemployment rate.

Seems Dear Leader told his Minions to add in the Temp Christmas jobs two months early.
