Romney's debate victory spooked the mainstream media. This is why Republicans nominated him
Telegraph - UK ^ | October 5, 2012 | Tim Stanley

Mitt Romney didn’t just beat Obama on Wednesday night. He also beat the liberal media. So great was his performance that liberal journalists simply had to concede the President’s defeat – a humiliation for an industry that has spent several years setting Obama up as the wisest, most eloquent, most popular politician since FDR. No longer can Romney be dismissed with a gag about a dog strapped to the roof of his car. This uptight rich guy could be the next President of the United States.

Evidence of liberal panic is everywhere. In the hours after the debate, the mood in the MSNBC bunker was near-suicidal – and it’s in tortured moments like these that all pretence of objectivity disappears. Chris Matthews (a former Democrat staffer turned TV motor mouth who undoubtedly talks in his sleep) ranted that Obama ought to watch MSNBC to learn how to fight conservatives. Ed Schultz was “stunned” and Rachel Maddow thought it might be sort of a draw (in the same way that the Titanic's encounter with an iceberg was “sort of a draw”). The New York Times ran with the vague headline, “Obama and Romney, in First Debate, Spar Over Fixing Economy” and called the evening “unhelpful.” Why? Because their guy lost.

[SNIP]

My main point throughout my commentary of this election hasn’t been that I want Romney to win but that I think he can. He can because a) this President’s domestic record is poor, b) Romney is a much better candidate that many people realise and c) Romney’s values are more representative of a slim majority of the American people than Obama’s. After Wednesday’s debate, I hope that all three of these points have become more apparent. That’s why it mattered so much.

I had seen on Drudge, the day of the debate, that a company was going to employ a lie detector of sorts on the candidates voices to see who was being untruthful.

Anyone hear anything about the results? (I am thinking BO’s first line, “I am the luckiest man in the world” might have been the starter.)

“The risk is too high and the they can always spin his no-show (at the debates) to be plausibly truthful.”

That window closed a long time ago. The media is now the least trusted institution in America. Only 9% of Americans trust the MSM, according to Pew’s latest survey of the most trusted institutions in America. The NYT, Washington Post, CBS, et al, are sinking into the tar pit and becoming fossils. Every lie, every prevarication and all propaganda are more nails in the coffin of the MSM.

You can tell your grandkids that you witnessed the death of Hitler’s American version of Goebbel’s Ministry of Propaganda and Enlightenment.

Say bye-bye Dan, Christie and Ms. Piggy, AKA Diane Sawyer.

I think he is so full of himself that he thinks he can get away with ANYTHING! He has, after all, since he was inaugurated.

His whole life. When he figured out that if he did not appear as an angry black man, whitey would bend over backward to accommodate him. So he got scholarships to ivy league schools, got appointed to Harvard law review and then wrote a book about himself and ultimately got unbelievable good press all through his candidacy.

He is a flim, flam man, a charlatan who does not know how to tell the truth and is laughing all the way to the bank for the rest of his life.

Do not confuse the low number of people who trust the MSM with the longing for a conservative or even a check/balanced media. Many of those who distrust the MSM do so because they believe the media is biased to the right (especially toward ‘big evil corporate America’. These people want a more leftist media!

Obama will use the October Surprise to keep from more debates—WAR or the threat of war would do it—a confrontation at sea with Chinese Navy (all set up in advance with the Chinese.) or A bid to stop the bloodshed between Turkey and Syria 0r a manufactured event with Russia, North Korea, or Iran might do.
He can’t debate because of National security! He might try one more time—spiked up, ready with facts, angry, ready to go like Rocky in a Re-Match—Mitt better watch out. He will have to change his line of attack.

I heard some liberal group was going to have "experts" give their opinion but that was for the next debate.
I can just imagine that the so called experts will agree that Romney is likely lying and Obama is very truthful.

I’d believe your statement if you could offer a modicum of proof, but you can’t. In 2010, the left-wingers were slaughtered all across the country.

Patriots and conservatives took over the US House of Representatives and elected more than 700 patriots and conservatives to the state legislatures, giving us effective control of 26 states.

Now, I realize that we have a gloom and doom, surrender-monkey contingent here on FR that loves raising the white flag and whining like little girls who found a bug in their teacup. That’s okay. They’re identified, tabulated and marked.

Other than that, we’re doing okay. How about you?

Mondale made a big mistake in that debate that has stuck with me all these years. He said that Reagan was not telling Americans the truth by saying that he would not raise taxes. Mondale very proudly said that he was being honest by admitting that he WOULD raise their taxes. It is very stupid to say in a debate that you are going to raise taxes.

Another big difference this time around is that Reagan was almost universally loved. Although there are some people who are still blinded by Obama, he is a lot more unpopular than the polls indicate. He is without a doubt one of the most unprepared and unqualified men to have ever served as POTUS and many consider him to be worse than Jimmy Carter. Reagan,on the other hand, is without doubt one of the greatest!

—— Obama will use the October Surprise to keep from more debates ——

The townhall questions will be set up, and the press will grill Romney in the last debate.

Romney will still crush the empty chair like an aluminium can.

I knew that Obama was an empty suit, but not this empty.

the mainstream(sic) media

There's no such thing as a mainstream media. The DLEMM - Dominant Liberal Establishment Mass Media - aka the fourth estate - is leftist not mainstream. People need to stop referring to those pukes as if they're mainstream.

I’m far from doom & gloom prophet. In fact, I’m often battling them. However, I also want to be realistic. An election or two doesn’t say anything much about the reality that the country is pretty divided into about 40-45% and 10-20% swing voters. Hence, we had 2006, 2008, and 2010 swings. As such, opinion numbers on certain issue, like the media, presidency, congress, and so on, should reflect that, but they don’t. Take Bush Jr numbers for instance, which at point was quite low at around 30% or something. Leftist used the numbers as an argument that the people reject conservatism. But that’s not true. The numbers reflected the fact that some conservatives ‘hated’ Bush for being too liberal! Same here with the media. The low numbers reflect the disappointment from both left and right. One wants to see them more to the left, the other want to see them move to the right.

Wow. Wow. I’m from New York, and I was raised by good liberals from that fair city, and this is devestating. When the New Yorker does this to you, it is like a kiss on the cheek from the godfather.

Betcha anything that Nobama is going to back out of the remainder of debates.

I hope he does because it will seal his doom! Recall last cycle when McShame halted his campaign to return to Washington? He took a lot of heat for it and was a factor in his loss.

Somehow I ended up on a left wing mailing list of Move On. This is an email re how the left wing progressives feel about the debate:

Dear MoveOn member,

That was infuriating.

During last night’s presidential debate, Mitt Romney smirked his way through dozens of mischaracterizations, distortions, and outright lies. The moderator, Jim Lehrer, never cut him off. And now the mainstream media is saying that Mitt won the debate.

We can’t let Romney “win” the debate on a boatload of lies.

He lied about his tax plan, his deficit plan, and Medicare. He lied about what “Obamacare” would do. He lied, baldly and convincingly, about Obama’s entire presidency.1

We need to move quickly to set the record straight. Our online team worked overnight preparing a media blitz—including online ads targeted at swing-state voters—correcting the worst lies in an easy-to-share format.

Chip in $5 to get the truth out—countering Mitt’s lies.

If we don’t fight back now with the truth, some of those lies will stick, and Romney could pull ahead.

Already, Romney and his Super PAC friends have spent millions on blatantly false ads attacking President Obama for gutting work requirements for welfare and cutting $700 million from Medicare.

Last night was more of the same.

And research shows that when lies get repeated enough times people will believe them—no matter how outlandish they might seem. The only way to keep Romney honest is to make sure the facts get corrected on the spot.

We’re now in the moment when millions of undecided voters who don’t usually pay attention to politics start to focus.

This is it. This is what MoveOn’s massive online network is for. Let’s use it.

Please chip in $5.

Thanks for all you do.

Straight from the mouths of the Left and their State Media, who practice deceit and lies.

Thanks for the info.
