U.S. Soldiers Urged Not to Shoot Taliban at Night so Locals Can Sleep
Breitbart ^ | 10/05/12 | AWR Hawkins

Reports indicate U.S. soldiers and British Royal Marines have been urged to show "courageous constraint" by not shooting Taliban members spotted planting IEDs.

The reason? Shooting them might disturb the locals.

This news comes out on the heels of an investigation into the death of Royal Marine Sergeant Peter Rayner, whom witnesses say watched the Taliban plant IEDs at night but was ordered not to engage them. Families of other soldiers and Royal Marines are telling stories of how their loved ones were not allowed to use mortars or night illumination when they came across Taliban members in an area full of IEDs.

The reason given was that "the sound of shooting 'might wake up and upset the locals.'"

This is not "courageous restraint" -- this is appeasement.

Total outrage.

The administration makes the ROE’s.

Anyone thinks the Taliban hasn’t figured out they are getting a free hand at night.

ROE are classified, I doubt that this is in the ROE. That said, when I was a company commander in Vietnam, I saw a mother and her young child planting a booby trap (IED) around dusk. I had a sniper team with me and the ROE allowed me to engage. I couldn’t do it. I just couldn’t do it.

Contact the federal highway folks here in the US and tell them that the traffic on the interstate is keeping you awake at night and you want that night traffic stopped. See what happens.

The bureaucratic jerks behind “courageous constraint” should be issued a weapon and sent in harms way to “courageously” defend freedom under their own absurd rules of engagement.

Gee, that’s funny. I’d think they’d sleep better knowing the Taliban won’t be able to coerce them or violate their human rights.

If victory is truly optional, then you don’t have the right to risk the life of a single soldier. Get them out, and don’t send them back until you are committed to winning.

I was thinking they need more compound bows and silencers.

I believe he'd say fire that bastard Dempsey.

No, he would seek out and shoot the SOB!

No, this is criminal, or at least it should be! The civilian authorities who put these RoE in place should be criminally charged with "accessory to murder." Because that's exactly what will result. The murder of military personnel.

The reason this is occurring is because the American people decided to go with a novelty act for presidential leadership in 2008. It has nothing to do with Pentagon bureaucracy. All mid-level officers & Pentagon bureaucrats can do is salute and say 'Yes Sir!' Note the UK troops are being forced to be just as stupid.

The actual honest reason this is occurring is due to the feminization of the West. That's being going on at least since the 1960s. It's only now reached critical mass. We may be correcting our "novelty act" presidential leadership in 2012. However the "culture rot" of feminization continues ! Note when I say feminization it does not imply that I disapprove of women in politics. Think Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher, others (heck go back to Elizabeth the First! if you want !), these women did not practice a "feminized" foreign or military policy!

If this keeps up, the most powerful military in the world is going to be so demoralized they won’t be an effective fighting force for years to come.

Exactly as intended.

If we don’t teach the locals that there is a price for coddling the enemy, they will succumb to the threats of the enemy, and side with them.

Nothing in War College teaches you to ensure the enemy has a warm place to sleep or a neighborly environment to thrive in.
