enezuelans packed supermarkets on Friday to stock up on food and other essentials in case of trouble around Sunday's presidential vote, which was shaping up as the biggest electoral challenge of Hugo Chavez's 14-year rule. Energetic young state governor Henrique Capriles has gained momentum in the closing days of the campaign and he seemed to have the opposition's best chance of unseating Chavez since the socialist president came to power in 1999. Many among the South American oil exporting nation's 29 million people are fretting that tight results could bring accusations of fraud and protests in an already highly polarized society awash with illegal arms. "I have to think about my family, there could be violence, anything is possible in this country," said housewife Dayana Alvarez, 38, among scores of shoppers buying cooking oil, powdered milk, candles and flour in a teeming Caracas supermarket.

Preppers’ PING!!
Shortages of common items in Venezimbabwe are common enough, but who thinks Hugo is going to willingly let go of power?
Who things ‘ObaMugabe’ and his followers will?
also a good point
Why are they nervous? Don’t they know Sean Penn endorses their dicktater?
Even during the Civil War, elections were held.
I have no faith in Obama or his ilk, but I do have faith in the blind momentum of bureaucratz.
He loses, he's going.
Chavez? Not so much.

This American is stocking up before the election too.
1) 50 Separate states with their own governments.
2) 2nd amendment. About ? billion guns in private hands.
3) Our military. It's not coming for us.
It won't work. It will be disruptive. Good to prepare for any disruption.
But O ain't staying if he loses.
Sorry sir, those phones have been disconnected. We have to repace the carpets and the furniture in this room now.
The machine rolls on. Inertia keeps more freedom alive today than patriots.

Same here including stocking more ammo, food and water. No travel plans to any cities election week.
The thugs in L.A. destroyed their own city when cops got too harsh with a huge, drugged out, combative Rodney King. How are they going to react when we vote Obama out and the left-wing radicals are telling them that we "stole" the White House from the first "African-American President"? :-(
.
I won’t leave my house election day or the day after. If I hear of trouble here, I’ll stay in my house until it’s safe.
It’s like a giant ship on the ocean. Kill the engines and you can’t stear but it keeps moving forward.
We need to re-start the engines.

You forgot about the bunker underneath the White Hut that he’ll lock himself in.
Illegal arms? How dare the citizens of Venezuela take measures for defending themselves! What do they think they are, free? Don't they know that it's much better for the government to have a monopoly on guns? Much easier to "govern" when that's the case...

Good idea. We should be doing the same.
I agree.
There may be some goofy demonstrations if O loses, but he will still be forced from the White House.
And it will probably just be a blip on the screen if there are protests. Like when the Lakers won in LA. Any excuse for a protest.
