The 27-year-old coffee barista died in April after being struck by an NYPD squad car that began chasing him as he swiped paver stones in the predawn light at his Brooklyn housing project.

Now his mom’s being chased anew, hounded by a collection agency hired by the city with a cruel final demand, the Daily News has learned.

The city has ordered her to pay the $710 cost of repairing the police car that killed her boy.

So, we have outrage by a parent of a society parasite (thief), who was killed while fleeing the police - because he was caught in the act of stealing property. In his attempt to flee the police, he was killed (for which I have ZERO sympathy) and damaged the taxpayer’s police car.

If Mommy and Daddy were not abject FAILURES as parents, they would still have a kid. If the parasite didn’t decide to evade the police, he wouldn’t be dead.

Cry me a river, pay the fine and whine to someone who cares. I have no sympathy for parasites.

The dead son was the thief, not the surviving mother.

The 27-year-old coffee barista...

"coffee barista"?

The son was 27 years old. The mother is no longer legally responsible for his actions.

I would agree if the son had been a minor. But he was a 27-year-old adult. Are your parents financially responsible for your actions? Should they be?

Since when is a parent responsible for a 27 year-old child?

Even Obamacare cuts off being covered on your parents’ medical insurance at 26.

If I got a bill for something owed (or not) by my 27 year-old child, I would not pay it.

The attached article says the letter was addressed to her son? Also sounds like the family has a lawyer and lawsuit in the works..

Maybe the city is going after the son's estate, not her.

Not to say I think the city should be going after the son's estate. The cops hit a pedestrian that they were well aware of.

“I have no pity for thieves.”

It's very Lenin like to go after the dead kids mother to fix dents in a cop car.

That it does. But it also says this...

"It also threatens to slap the family with a lawsuit if the claim isn’t paid.

I'm no expert on NY law but it seems the city has little chance of collecting this money so it is trying to do so by threatening the family.

Maybe a bit over-the-top on the part of the authorities, but if you’re going to steal things the consequences are on you. In this case, since the thief was a minor, the parents are responsible for the damages.

I’m glad the stones we used (not me, the builder) weigh so much, I almost threw my back out putting one back I accidentally knocked over with my car. I’d be more than a little PO’d to come home and find one of my retaining walls missing stones besides the ones I knock over.

Now, what was someone that lives in a housing project going to do with paver stones??? Did he already have a buyer? Did the cops look for him since he is accessory and since the kid died, he gets to be an accessory for that as well?

Thieves aren’t high on my list of people I like although him getting killed sucks but if he hadn’t been committing some crime, he would still be alive today.

Until I actually drove through NYC, the closest I ever got to the projects was the show, “Good Times” and “Cops”! They are hell holes and I feel sorry for the decent people that live in them. I however, have zero sympathy for the thugs that make them such a terrible place.

I must not have read the article carefully enough; I thought he was a minor. In that case, the parents are NOT liable, unless they had him in wardship or something.
