Students boycotting school lunches
Published: Oct. 6, 2012 at 4:46 PM

NEW YORK, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Many U.S. high school students are protesting new, healthier school lunches, and a professor says it may take a while for students to accept healthier food.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 required public schools to follow new nutritional guidelines this academic year, providing fruits and vegetables and limiting fat, sodium, and calories, The New York Times reported Friday.

"Before, there was no taste and no flavor," said Malik Barrows, a senior at Automotive High School in Brooklyn. "Now there's no taste, no flavor and it's healthy, which makes it taste even worse."

Barrows said many students at his school end up throwing out their servings of fruits and vegetables, which has been the case nationwide, school officials have said.

Take the Feds out of public ed.

right you are...and bet the schools were threatened by Axelrod and other white house thugs as well...

Michelle O. really has no business making nutrition rules as she has no background on the topic.
she is a disbarred lawyer...and an abuser of tax dollars with her vacations and travels..

this tribe has got to go....vote them out...NOV. 6

I have a “food police” sister-in-law. She was a huge help to me when my husband was dying of cancer last year. She would travel for 5 hours to come help me.

I knew not to buy any groceries when she was coming, because she is a health nut and prefers to go to the grocery herself to buy our food. I was not allowed in the kitchen when she was here. No veggie is cooked, it's all eaten fresh. Salads are not bunches of lettuce, there may be some special lettuce in there, but the rest is food you wouldn't necessarily think goes in a salad. There might be some cooked chicken that she got freshly cooked at the grocery deli. She would stand at the kitchen sink as long as it took to prepare fresh veggies.

She would bring a filled plate to me so I could watch TV while I ate. IT WAS DELICIOUS!

She and the husband come to see me every chance they get and I know she will fix every meal and it will be DELICIOUS.

I don't think school kids are getting the healthy type food she fixes. It would take the cooking staff too long to put together a feast like she does.

They are coming Thanksgiving and I will actually cook. I've promised her I would bake Cornish Game Hens with Apricot glaze dripping off them. I'll make cornbread dressing and wild rice, plus asparagus with an amount of honey mustard dressing dripped on top of the asparagus. I do love both of these people.

“and a professor says it may take a while for students to accept healthier food.”

How about may take a short while for us to realize we made a mistake, and get burgers, pizza, and spaghetti back into the mix?

Several food service directors said the best strategy may be waiting.

Ah yes...

The old time proven "Starve 'em out" strategy!

I work at a private residential treatment facility for
about forty boys. Nutrition requirements are enforced
by state licensing as they should be. The food has always
been very hit and miss on the “tasty scale” (mostly miss).
Since Moochelle started doing her part, things have gotten
a whole lot worse. The menu bites and not in a good way.
Even snack time is the pits. Our kids are emotionally
disturbed and most are special ed but they all seem to
understand the Michelle Obama connection and if they
could vote the Obamas would be street organizing in
Chicago at least the next four years.

Free Lunches in Schools results in students becoming adults who expect free “lunches” from politicians.

Schools are not restaurants. Abolish the School Lunch Program.

I don’t suppose the teachers are subjected to these lunches. If I were charged with making this thing work, I would have the teachers sitting in there eating the same food as the students.

You know, all this eminates from Obamacare, which is essentially Maoist in nature. State control of personal habits is advocated in the name of cost savings, and this movement is signalised by the spotlight on obesity, notwithstanding that it collides head on with the PC idea of fat liberation.

Well her name may not be mentioned but I distinctly recall seeing a video of Mrs. Obama around the first days of school touting her program I bet it was shown in all the school auditoriums. She is a publicity hound among other things. I can not believe what she is wearing this is tacky for a First Lady

This begs for the old story:

A national dog food company was having problems so they had a national meeting and required every one to attend.

The president gets up and says (with the aid of a teleprompter). We have the best research institute to determine the optimum nutritional health needs. We have the most up to date manufacturing plants. We have the best trained sale force and we spend millions training them. Now tell me why we aren't selling any pet food!

A gentlemen from the south stood and said, “The dooooooggs don't like it.”

Hey, if it was good enough for the Sovs starving millions to crush the spirits of uppity Ukrainians, it's gotta be good enough for American schoolkids!

That's a shame.

I'm 61 years old, 6'5" tall and weigh exactly what I did when I was an all-state basketball player in high school.

I've been eating almost nothing but beef and potatoes for as long as I've had teeth and intend to continue doing so.
