ObamaPhones Profiting Obama Donors
Washington Free Beacon ^ | October 8, 2012 | Andrew Stiles

A wireless company profiting from the so-called “Obama phone” giveaway program is run by a prominent Democratic donor whose wife has raised more than $1.5 million for the president since 2007.

Last week a video of a President Barack Obama supporter in Ohio claiming to have received a free phone from the president—“[Obama] gave us a phone!”—went viral, prompting media outlets to investigate.

Since 1985 the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has operated a program called Lifeline, originally designed to provide free landline phone service for low-income individuals. The government subsidizes telecommunications firms providing the service, and those firms also pass on costs to customers via the “Universal Service Charge” on their phone bills.

HELP NEEDED

Well there goes my TracFone but I need help finding an alternative. Don’t use a cell much, definitely don’t text or tweet.

My husband has a cell phone plan that costs us $50 bucks
a month. 2 cells phones flip type nothing fancy. I used
9 minutes last month. I just have no reason to have that
thing glued to my ear or thumbs like most of the people
I see under 40 these days. What is so important that they
have to be on phone or tweet 90% of waking hours?

I agree with you, but having one for emergency purposes is a good idea in my book.

The modern purpose of taxes is to milk the taxpayer to pay for your election.

Slim made his money the old-fashioned way in the 3rd world - government imposed monopoly. This is the problem with wealthy 3rd worlders. They’re not self-made in an American way.

I’m one of the many senior citizens who carry a cell phone only for emergencies. I don’t stand in the cereal aisle at the supermarket and shout questions into a phone to my wife at home, such as “Do we like the honey-nut Cheerios or the plain?”

Since I use only 5 or 10 minutes a month, an expensive monthly plan makes no sense for me. I was happy to find Tracfone, which fit my needs perfectly.

However, now I have learned that I’ve been giving aid and comfort to the enemy. If I were Japanese, I’d be reading “Hari-Kari for Dummies” in order to learn the most painful method to disembowel myself. But, since I’m of the Caucasian persuasion, I will merely dump the Tracfone (when my minutes run out—I’ve already paid for them) and seek a reasonable alternative. Maybe I can tie a long string between two cans, in case I have a serious question for my wife while purchasing Corn Flakes.

I have net 10 but I found out that is a subsidiary of Tracphone. Hmmm looking into maybe AT&T $50 a month?

That would mean that my 2 calls a month ("Sorry, I'll be a few minutes late--I'm stuck in traffic," and "Our plane just landed--meet us at baggage claim.") would cost 25 bucks apiece.
