Joe Klein: "Bigoted" If You Don't Think Obama's Intelligent - The Chris Matthews Show
On Chris Matthews' weekend talk show, NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell and Time Magazine's Joe Klein teamed up to insulate President Obama from attack, insinuating that questioning the President's intelligence and work ethic in the wake of a lackluster debate performance is racist.
First up, Andrea Mitchell recounted an exchange she had with Romney campaign co-chair John Sununu in which Sununu said Obama "revealed his incompetence, how lazy and detached he is, and how he has absolutely no idea how serious the economic problems of the country are."
Mitchell said she was "troubled" by Sununu's criticism, and that "just using that phrase 'lazy,' and attaching it to this President - to any President, but to this President - had all sorts of resonance and echoes."
Later in the segment, Joe Klein announced that any questioning of President Obama's intelligence amounted to bigotry:
Klein: What you're seeing among conservative commentators now is this whole emperor has no clothes thing and the whole teleprompter meme from the last four years. They actually believe this guy isn't intelligent, which is crazy, or it is bigoted.
President Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law school. Two degrees from elite Ivy League institutions typically shield one from criticism regarding intelligence, but progressives held an all-out onslaught on President George W. Bush's intelligence despite also holding two Ivy League degrees. Bush's transcripts reveal approximately a 2.3 GPA while at Yale, which was higher than his 2004 election rival John Kerry. President Obama has declined to release his transcripts.
UPDATE: As numerous commenters pointed out, President Obama has called himself lazy in interviews before. And he got it from growing up in Hawaii... apparently.

Obama: "You know, it's interesting. There is a deep down, underneath all the work that I do, I think there's a laziness in me. It's probably from, you know, growing up in Hawaii and it's sunny outside, and sitting on the beach.

Back in 2007 and 2008, when I first saw Obama off teleprompter, it was very apparent that he was no mental giant. And that’s only been made more clear since.
And his recent remark that “it’s a drag” preparing for very critical debates doesn’t exactly discourage the idea that he’s lazy.
And sour cream = supreme!
Compared to what I usually call him, “lazy” would almost be a compliment.

I think Joe Klein isn’t very intelligent and that he’s lazy. Does that make me a “bigot” too? Joey! You can shove that race card where the sun don’t shine.
Hard work might kill you. Obama just doesn’t want to chance it.
This guy, though, really is stupid and nobody is drawing pictures of him at all.

Not at all Klein, born out by actions and events. But don't let that stop you from engaging the usual liberal tactic of making an unfounded personal attack - pre-emptively accusing people of bigotry.
On some things sure, hussein's got a natural knack or he is well trained. (eg. manipulating people) On others he is a complete rube (eg. economic policy, foreign policy, national security, Constitutional law, and oh so many others)
Fundamentally you have to question his intelligence - he is obviously a committed socialist. So he is promoting a socio-economic system that is a proven failure. (proven as in, over, and over, and over again - a 100% failure rate). Now, there's a saying about intelligence vs wisdom regarding learning from your mistakes or learning from others. hussein fits squarely into the third category - fools. He doesn't even learn from his own mistakes.
I guess you could always ascribe hussein's love of socialism with just plain meanness towards his fellow man. Maybe he just likes to spread the misery. Look how well socialism worked for the USSR, Cuba, North Korea, etc. You'd think an intelligent person could learn from 50 years of cold war. Unless you're hussein... Just look at the last 4 years here, been great hasn't it? {snort}
Maybe it is just his fascist leanings that he likes control. After all, his statements are littered with "I" and "let me" and similar phrases. We all know how well rampant fascism works out, cost us what, 30 million lives last century to beat that down.
Obama speaks clearly and coherently when he’s off teleprompter and talking about the things he really believes in... redistribution, reparations, injustice, Islam, apologies for American evils, and so on.
