FIVE men have been jailed after a sniper rifle was found in the boot of a minicab in South Croydon.

Tyron Harding, 45, sold the .22 bolt-action rifle and hollow-point ammunition - designed to cause maximum injury - to his fellow defendants on November 1 last year.

Armed police officers stopped Loyan Osman, 25, soon afterwards as he travelled along Brighton Road, South Croydon, in a minicab. In his possession he had 57 rounds of ammunition.

When officers searched the boot of the vehicle they found the rifle with a sniper scope and silencer attached. It was loaded with a bullet in the breach and more in a magazine.

Osman, Anthony Hosey, 28, Khadar Mire, 25, and Nathaniel Tracey, 27, had been watched by officers as they travelled from Lambeth in Mire's BMW to buy the weapon and ammunition from Harding.

As Osman travelled back to Lambeth in the minicab his colleagues followed in the BMW.

Officers arrested Osman after stopping the cab and subsequently detained Hosey, More and Tracey following further investigation.

On December 12, officers searched Harding's girlfriend's house in Huddlestone Crescent, Merstham, which was close to the location where the weapon was purchased.

In the loft they found another .22 bolt-action rifle with a telescopic sight and silencer. Three boxes of hollow-point ammunition, containing 62 rounds, were also recovered. Harding was arrested as he returned home.

Detective Sergeant Phil Holt, of the Met's Trident Gang Crime Command, said: "These men were found in possession of the kind of lethal weaponry that is typically associated with the most dangerous of criminals.

The same thing that makes firearms lethal is what makes them useful. But that utility has no place in the hand of slaves.

I have several .22lf. Not much more than a pellet gun. I even keep one on the porch in the summer just to shoot squrriels in the garden. To think that there are human beings in other countries that are being controlled this much that a. 22lr justifies the ruling class taking as much as 16 years of your life is sickening.

And 57 (!) rounds of .22 hollowpoint ammunition-—a veritable arsenal—and designed to inflict the maximum amount of bodily injury.
It’s another one of those dreadful, infernal engines of destruction from the States I dare say. Harumph, harumph.

Wow, 57 whole rounds of ammunition. I go through that much just warming up at the range.

What exactly is a "sniper scope" anyway? Sounds cool, where can I get one? Funny, the definitions I've found for sniper list it as a marksman who shoots from a concealed place. Makes no mention of range nor equipment, merely tactics. I suppose good old iron sights would work just fine in many cases. Sniper scope, about as meaningful as "assault rifle" - ie. fact content free.

5.56 NATO 75 gr

Not the most deadly ordinance in the world, but still nothing to laugh at.

A .22 hollow point at 100 yards is deadly if these guys were average shots. It’s not mentioned in the article, but given the names, I’d say these were sniper/terrorists. Sixteen years isn’t enough.

If I ever find out where the heck Sough Croydon is, I’ll make a point of staying clear.

They were armor piercing hollow points. It was a .22 Cal AK47. Their plan was to bring down an Army helicopter. The rifle was fully automatic.

Black September was killed with 22 pistols. Most of you are clowns.

By trained operatives at point blank range.

So what does it say about you when a guy with floppy shoes and a rubber nose can confidently call you an idiot?

That's not what the story says.

I saw that movie! ‘Munich’ right? The Israeli agents were frantically assembling their .22 weapons, cleverly disguised as bicycle pumps, while the hot Dutch babe was fumbling behind her back in a drawer for what appeared to be a Beretta .25.
Talk about ‘clowns’. I thought they were going to ask her to have a seat while they finished assembling their bicycle pump pea shooters! Eventually they figured it out. So the audience wonders, why didn’t she have a smoke, then smoke the Israeli ‘Maxwell Smarts’?

Those are pretty pathetic excuses for sniper/terrorists if they’re fielding bolt action .22s.

This is unreal. A total of 71 years of prison time for the same exact item which we use in the states to teach marksmanship to kids. I can only imagine what would have happened if these cops had pulled me over a couple years ago on the way to a Boy Scout campout.

12 .22 rifles + 10 boxes of 525 rounds each, along with 4 shotguns and 500 rounds for them. I would have been given the death penalty.

God Bless Texas!

A .22LR isn’t going to pierce much armor. A .223 will pierce a little.

But you don’t bring down a helicopter with .22. You bring it down with a shotgun firing a cable or large bolo.

That’s what the insurgents in Iraq would use against us. They are also using high-powered civilian lasers to blind/disorient drivers and pilots.

Look for those attacks coming to your city intersections in the future.

The article says “bolt action.” FYI, “bolt action” is incompatible with “fully automatic.”

If my son were the fascist bastard "human being" using such overblown rhetoric to describe a friggin' .22, he'd never set foot in my house again.
