Uncle Sam Prepares To Unleash Up To 30,000 Drones Over America For "Public Safety"
ZeroHedge ^

Posted on 10/10/2012 7:37:50 AM PDT by jsh3180

The Federal Aviation Administration is working towards putting the finishing touches on rules and regulations for widespread domestic drone use, and the agency expects as many as 30,000 UAVs will be in America’s airspace by the decade’s end. As Russia Today notes, given that the department has already addressed the issue of acquiring drones to give the DHS a better eye of domestic doings, though, those law enforcement operations in question could very well transcend away from legitimate uses and quickly cause civil liberty concerns from coast-to-coast. All drones will be equipped with Electro-Optical/Infra-Red sensors, as well as the technology to sniff out certain chemicals from thousands of feet above our heads. Have no fear though, since the "Robotic Aircraft for Public Safety" program is for your own protection, we are sure Janet Napolitano would suggest.

Of course they won’t be used to close down crack dens - just to spy on and harass the enemies of the left.

I am really tiring of all this crud.

Pretty soon they will have microphones or a smell-o-meters everywhere and start charging carbon credits when we poot.

TSA, drones, wiretapping, e-mail snooping, cameras everywhere—it has to stop somewhere, no?

Gone are the days 1956-1960 when every small town in mid-America had a watchtower, and teens were expected to volunteer a few hours a week to watch the skies for RUSSIAN BOMBERS!

Now we need to man the watchtowers to watch the skies for DRONE bombers! Wonder if their engine can survive a 178gr piece of copper and lead at 2800 fps.

It won’t stop until there is mass outrage or mass violence. Sadly the American majority is now too dependent on Uncle Sam to protest or worse.

I wish I owned the ordinance that would take down one of these. With the optics they have they will fly so high we can’t see them.

The Federal Aviation Administration is working towards putting the finishing touches on rules and regulations for widespread domestic drone use, and the agency expects as many as 30,000 UAVs will be in America’s airspace by the decade’s end.

1) The FAA never said this. The "30,000" number got invented out of thin air, and then was spread through about 10,000 blog posts by morons.

2) The headline manages to inflate this false claim even further by asserting that ALL 30,000 UAVs will be operated by the US Government for domestic spying.

The author of this piece is an imbecile who should be embarassed.

But because as I've mentioned people love to be outraged, this false assertion gets repeated ad nauseam.

Yep... when the collapse comes and those poor urbanites’ SNAP/EBT cards are worthless,

the drones will come in handy finding out which rural/suburban homes have “too much food” growing in their gardens.

These drones are all about protecting the government, not the people.

The drone solicitation requires the UAV to be able to host a laser designator.
WTF???!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The DHS is going to bomb us. That’s the only use of a laser designator that I know.

If the Obamaninsky’s had done their job on the ground protecting us, they would not have had this flimsy, disingenous EXCUSE for needing to protect us from the air. Zer0 and Big Sis, we are NOT that stupid, and we are NOT intimidated.

I would say at the present time you are correct.

I think back fifteen years ago...if someone told me then that someday in order to get on a commercial airplane, I would have the choice of either having a nude picture of me taken, or get felt up, I would have laughed and mocked the one who said such a thing.

Just one example of many things happening today, I could not even imagine just a few years ago.
