Worldview: Romney overhypes Libya attack
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | October 11, 2012 | Trudy Rubin, Inquirer Opinion Columnist

...In his big foreign policy speech at Virginia Military Institute Monday, Mitt Romney tried to use the Middle East to show how he'd display firmer global leadership than President Obama. Clearly, he thought the administration's handling of the terror attack in Benghazi provided him with a political opening.

But rather than display a muscular vision, Romney's speech was a muddle that revealed a real misunderstanding of the region. The speech reeked of the willful blindness about Mideast realities that produced the worst failures of George W. Bush.

The good news, despite the Libyan hype, is that the country has few people and lots of oil. Its elected government, which isn't Islamist, may be able to buy off the militias. The United States has the capacity to help Libyans track down al-Qaeda wannabes, or linkups who keep up the fight.

But the truth is, Libya doesn't matter that much strategically, despite the political grandstanding on the issue. What matters is that the next president have a broad grasp of the changes in the region. Judging from his speech, Romney hasn't managed that yet.

Bottom line for this article: What’s one dead American in the broader scheme of things?
Leftists so love THE PEOPLE, but individual persons are meaningless.

Hype? How insulting the to four US diplomats that were killed there. I’m positive they, their families and everyone that cares about them believe it was “hype.” I suppose the killing of another in Yemen today is just more hype too.

Trudy Rubin is truly blinded by her democratic party loyalty and completely omits the preventable DEATH of 4 US citizens over there!

This line is the tip off that nothing else this hack writes is worth reading.

This was undoubtedly a copied transcript from al-queada and the tally bunnies. Can find no other explanation which explains this.

They out and out lied that there were demonstrators protesting a video in Benghazi, when they knew it was an Al Qaeda terrorist attack on 9/11. This is a major coverup and scandal, demonstrating a shambles of our middle eastern foreign policy, that the media will not focus enough on in order to cover their god Obama’s behind. Romney is not overhyping this in the least. If anything he is too restrained.

What’s the big deal Trudy? An attack on an American embassy IS an attack on The United States of America.

What’s one dead American in the broader scheme of things?

Correction...What's 4 dead Americans, one gang raped America journalist, and one dead Yemeni Head of American security in the region?

This journalist is the one who doesn't understand what is unfolding in the region. Does 0bama? He might, he just might be the chaos creator for the islamics that cause the WMD's fall into the hands of the Militia for Allah(al-queda).

The article is WRONG in stating that obama (and those who are his puppetmasters) had nothing to do with the Arab Spring.

Code Pink (among others) was running around Egypt fomenting revolution. obama/Hillary/Samantha Power caused the overthrow of Gaddafi in Libya, and th savages (the “militias”) are in charge there.

Romney should DITCH his neocon advisors!!!! BOTH neocons (like McCain) and liberal interventionists (like the clintons, Power, and Algore) are pure poison, who ALWAYS help the very worst muslims and get the US into lots of trouble.

Romney—I happen to know—has Serbian-American connections. I hope that they are both good Serbs and good American, and that Romney listens to them!!!!

An American ambassador request additional security, his request is rejected by the Administration, and he is murdered by terrorists. The White House responds by apologizing to the terrorists, discussing restrictions on free speech, blaming a youtube movie and persecuting the movie maker, and lying about terrorist involvement long after everyone else knows better. How could that disaster possibly be “overhyped”?

AQ is on “its heels” on the run no longer a factor / Osama is dead / we won.

Well, that’s a sad miscalculation.

So let’s blame the video.

4 dead. Known immediately it was terrorists. But the first instinct is political cover and to lie to the American public and to the families of the fallen.

“Overhyped”?

Yeah, having a US ambassador murdered because of lax embassy security is no big deal.

“help Libyans track down al-Qaeda wannabes, or linkups who keep up the fight.”

YOU get real with the “realities of the ME” - it’s MOSLEM. Moslems are cruel and militant and violent. These people won’t care about AQ and the replacements - as already proven with the recent “changes” - won’t be any better.

“But the truth is, Libya doesn’t matter that much strategically, despite the political grandstanding on the issue.”

It matters a great deal when you butt in militarily for absolutely no reason.
