For the first week of this election season, Mitt Romney is outspending President Barack Obama on television ads, with the Republican challenger dipping into a war chest amassed from an aggressive fundraising schedule.
Mr. Romney will spend about $16.8 million on television ads this week, according to ad-tracking data provided by media buyers, while Mr. Obama will spend about $15.5 million, down 30% from a week earlier, when the campaign spent heavily to air a two-minute, pre-debate spot.
.When spending by independent super PACs is included, the mismatch is wider. Mr. Romney and his allies will combine for $31.4 million this week, compared with $19.7 million for Mr. Obama and his supporters, according to data from one media tracker.
"A lot of the super PACs kind of were sitting there tepidly," said Kyle Roberts, head of Smart Media Group, a Republican ad-buying firm. "You're seeing them get back in the game."
The GOP advantage represents an additional fillip for Mr. Romney, who is riding a post-debate wave that has seen his poll numbers improve as the race enters its final stage.

Wonder what it feels like to flush $15.5 million down the toilet?
Looks like those who proposed that Romney was saving it up for the final month were right.
How does it stand with the free MSM ads thrown in?
Yeah, all Romney needs to do is focus on a positive, America-can-do-it campaign while pointing out the facts about Obama’s mistakes in the debate and this baby is OVER.
Yup.
I live in Ohio and last night on the way home (30 minute drive) I heard 3 killer ads for Romney, on different stations!
I mean Killer!! They were monster, some of the best I have ever heard!
Guess who’s advertising in New Jersey? Obama.
I’m on the Obama campaign’s e-mail list, and they’re bellyaching about that.
Good strategy. Even animals know this. Attack while they are on the run.
There’s blood in the water!!
The Dems flushed more than that trying to get rid of Wisconsin’s governor.
It's happening here in Virginia on radio and TV, big time. The all-out barrage has begun!
It appears exactly that is what's happening... at least here in VA. We're now seeing the beginning of the endgame... Romney appears to be closing the deal.

Awesome. This is great news, a 3/2 advantage. I wonder how long until the unions decide to save their money for next time.
I always hear that the vast majority of folks don’t really start paying attention until after the debates start. And, oooh baby, after that drubbing Obama took in the first one, all the people who didn’t know much about Romney are interested.....sitting up and soaking in everything the Romney camp is pitching. Reinforced by that remarkable performance, one on one, with O, Mr.Romney is sitting with plenty of ‘carpet-bombing’ ad money left. Good strategy.
pattyjo
Great!! Just made another donation to Romney/Ryan.
I understood.
And we were right.
Me and you, apillar, we were right.
Earlier reports I have heard several times now are that the dems will stop advertising heavy, they have to do some or look weak,in NC,VA and FLa.hard to imagine.
Thats good and bad. If they do it will concentrate adv.in other places like ohio, colo.,etc.
It’s looking like they have an uphill battle here in Ohio (that’s, O H I O)
They’re going to have to slow down sooner or later. I live in SE VA and there’s an obama ad on every channel I watch, every commersial break.
