As Syria War Roils, Unrest among sects hits Turkey
New York Times, August 4, 2012 Jeffrey Gettleman

These are my notes from the above article
The Alevis and Alawites dont follow some Islamic traditions and in Turkey they are a persecuted minority.
Syrias government troops are predominately Alawites while the majority of Syria is Sunni.
The Alevis are mostly ethnic Turks between 15 or 20 million strong.
The Alawites in Turkey is less than a million.
Turkeys government and most Sunnis support Syrian rebels.
The Alevis and Alawites support Bashar al-Assad.
Turkey is becoming more Sunni influenced and has teamed up with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, both Sunni, to oust Assad.
Assad has made Syria one of the most secular countries in the Middle East.
In Eastern Turkey, the Alawite women sport tank tops and tight jeans.
That is one of the saddest pictures I’ve ever seen.
Thanks Milagros.

As most violence all around the globe today, it's either Islamic hatred against non-Muslims, or intra-Islamic-bigotry.
Great pic. Is it really up somewhere?
Thanks Milagros, link saved. Something just seems so wrong about Syria and both Obama and Romney backing the Sunni Muslim Brotherhood. Assad may be the bad guy, but isnt the Muslim Brotherhood worse? Shouldnt we be supporting the Alawites? I must be missing something.
I agree. I think we should at least adopt a ‘wait and see’ state.
Yup. It’s all about values.
Probably, and it is one of many. Not sure I really need to see it this evening.
I wonder how many dead women and children there would be if a large amount of US citizens decided to overthrow the government. How many were there during our civil, war which was quite a long time ago? I don’t like Assad, but doesn’t he have the right to protect his right to continue to rule his country? From what I have seen many that attempt to take these countries over are worse than the leaders they have taken over, all in the name of democracy, but actually more like for the Muslim Brotherhood=, which is suppose to be democratic but doesn’t look like they are once they get in. Do we, as a Country, really have the right to decide to help mobs overthrow the rulers of other countries? Is there a legal basis to helping the Muslim Brotherhood take overthrow the rulers of many countries? If we do, someone please tell me the legal and moral basis for this is.
We should stay out of it. There are no good guys there.
If we really cared about them, we’d do what Ann Colter
said over 11 years ago.
Ryan was right in saying that Obam's admin. erred in calling Assad a "reformer," the error was done when the Muslm Brotherhood was NOT the main force of the anti-Assad regime.
