The European Union will win the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for its historic role in uniting the continent in an award that plays down the euro zones debt crisis, Norways NRK public radio said. The prize, worth $1.2 million, will be presented in Oslo on Dec. 10. The decision by the five-member panel, led by Council of Europe Secretary-General Thorbjoern Jagland, was unanimous, NRK said.
We have had confirmation from people whom we trust who say that it is the EU that will get the prize, NRK radio said, an hour before the prize announcement at 0900 GMT. The Nobel committee and the EU delegation to Norway was not immediately available for comment.

Yes, the prize is a joke.
If you dig around to the members of the committee who make this decision...it’s a fairly oddball group of intellectuals who don’t travel much, socialize only with other intellectuals, and never spent anytime with regular people.
Later news, outbreak of broken arms in Belgium as EU Politicos pat themselves on their own backs.
I think one institution that has been active in promoting peace is the Nobel Prize Peace Committee. I believe they deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
Where will the cash prize go? Athens? Ha, maybe for tanks and bullets..
Is this The Onion? Seriously? what a pathetic joke, and waste of the legacy of a great inventor.
Anybody care to lay odds about Romney being awarded this prize in 2013? Something along the lines of "No way, Jose" to a "Snowball in He77!"

Glory goes to the proletariet of the EU Collective!
Just at the British Colonial Office expanded as the Empire shrank, so awards go to institutions that are already on the way out.
That may be why they gave Obama the prize when he he was at his peak.
But the European Coal and Steel Community or the European Economic Community (forerunners of the EU) may well have kept France and Germany from going to war once again.
Probably the Soviet threat was more important, and a too rapid expansion hurt the institution, but still, getting France and Germany and the rest of Western Europe to cooperate after two world wars was an achievement in its day.
