I've been in politics at the ground level for 27 years and I have personally witnessed this type of stuff over and over. The only difference from one campaign to the next is that when the are losing they get really aggressive and will not only pull the Re publican’s signs up and throw them away, they will actually put the Democrat's sign in its place. I saw just this done twice to the same Republican senior in my town. We one that race.

Only 27 years?

My first (maybe second) great political revelation was watching fellow students deface signs, key cars, and strip off "evil" Goldwater bumper stickers while hanging Johnson decals on every inert object they could find.

All the while insisting on their moral and evolutionary superiority...which I thought was absurd then and now.

Interestingly enough, I was the only one drafted to go south.

PS: These were the same college students who weekly protested for minority rights "because there was beer".
