Baroness Thatcher marked yesterday's occasion by having lunch at Green's Restaurant and Oyster Bar in London's exclusive St James's district with her son Mark and his wife.

Writing on Twitter, Mr Romney - the Republican challenger engaged in a close fight with Democrat Barack Obama for the White House in next month's election - said: ''The US is blessed with courageous friends.

''Happy birthday to the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher - a tower of strength in the cause of liberty.''

Yes, she does look beautiful. In her memoirs, she wrote about how she carefully managed her wardrobe, even when she was a young candidate with limited means, so that she would always look her best and be appropriate.

I named my daughter Margaret. I’m very proud to say she was named after Margaret Thatcher. She too is proud to be named after such an inspirational leader.

A beautiful lady and one of the very best world leaders seen in the last half century. Two of my sons just came back from Argentina... seems they don't like the British much there and are putting a different name on maps for that place called the Falkland Islands. It's probably a same assumption that it's only a question of time before they try to take them again. One can only hope that present and future leaders will show Maggie's spine when that time comes....
