In a rare example of political unity, both the Romney and Obama campaigns have expressed concern to the Commission on Presidential Debates about how the moderator of the Tuesday town hall has publicly described her role, TIME has learned. While an early October memorandum of understanding between the Obama and Romney campaigns suggests CNNs Candy Crowley would play a limited role in the Tuesday-night session, Crowley, who is not a party to that agreement, has done a series of interviews on her network in which she has suggested she will assume a broader set of responsibilities. As Crowley put it last week, Once the table is kind of set by the town-hall questioner, there is then time for me to say, Hey, wait a second, what about X, Y, Z?

A lot of people have said that Romney doesn’t like town halls. I thought he did fine in the primary. I am sure he has had lots of practice lately with connecting with voters in that format.
Obama isn’t a fan of town hall debates...there is a reason he pushes for traditional podium debates.
“What she is saying is..”
How do I, Candy Crowley , interpret what you just said...?
Because its all about me and what I, Candy Crowley, think.
Town hall debates, at liberal universities are idiotic. In the future, if Republicans are asked to take part in a similar event at a similar college, they should make it a condition that another similar debate is to take place at Liberty University, or at Bob Jones University. Do you think libdems would accede?
Remember....the end justifies the means to these people. All they care about is Obama coming out ahead and they don't care how many rules they have to break to get that result.
This is a setup and an ambush format for Romney. But Romney's camp doesn't have to agree to it. Isn't there anyone in Romney's camp that is looking out for him? Apparently not.
"Yet, Crowley cant obviously let him run over time, as the first two moderators did, without it mucking up the format."
What type of crock excuse is this? I'm not party to every agreement to which my company signs with customers. But, by accepting employment in this plant, it is my responsibility to do my utmost to see that these agreements are honored.
If Crowley finds it distasteful to play such a diminished role, then she should ask to be replaced. Or both campaigns should ask her to step aside in view of her public statements to the effect that she will not honor that agreement. It is that simple.
Funny that this woman who looks like she never gets up from the table would use this analogy.
The wafflers and Obamites wouldn’t see it that way, though, they’d claim it was a retreat, and that ‘at least Obama had the stuff to ride it out when he was down, etc. etc.’ Honor is an alien enough concept in that arena, but even more so to Donks.
Unfortunately Romney’s camp already agreed to it.
Why the GOP can’t enforce debate fairness—or even assure that our military members get to vote—I can’t understand except
for gross incompetence or perfidy.
In either case, I’m ready for a new conservative party, though I’m not sure how to get there from here.
“Why don’t they just say that until they have a 50-50 participation (perhaps with Rush, Hannity, Levin, Malkin) as the co-moderator”
Oh, man. Wouldn’t that be great? Malkin let loose on the dimwitted Obama/Biden freak show... sigh... dreaming...
Is she related to Obama appointed person at the state department PJ Crowley? If so how can this be partisan .
