Three shot at youth football game in East Liberty

It was to have been the Homecoming game for the East End Raiders peewee football team -- their fans decked out from their socks to their hats in breast-cancer pink as 7- to 9-year-olds took the field at Pittsburgh Obama International Studies Academy in East Liberty.

Instead, hundreds of parents and children found themselves running and ducking for cover Saturday morning as gunshots rang from the metal bleachers overlooking the field -- the third shooting at a Pittsburgh youth football game in the last five years.

A statement released by Pittsburgh police said a 27-year-old man from Wilkinsburg was shot in the chest, a 64-year-old woman from Verona was shot in the stomach and shoulder and a 33-year-old woman was shot in the hand.

The first two are in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery at UPMC Presbyterian. The third victim is in stable condition.

The shootings occurred at 10:08 a.m. Names of the victims were not released.

No description of the shooter—does that mean what I think it does?

East Liberty is a very Amish section of Pittsburgh.

Pop Warner football avoids getting Police Details because of the cost. They say they call for a Detail. But they don’t show up. I’m on the Football Stadium Commission in my city.

I used to work for a firearms dealer.

Some of our best regular customers were older black men in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s who lived in these parts of town.

They had spent their whole lives working to pay off a mortgage, only to find civilization collapsing around them as they reached retirement. And they were scared shiite-less.

I’d recommend asking the mods to delete that comment and for you to call your lawyer asap.

“I was born and raised in East Liberty. It was a great place to grow up many years ago. Sad what it has become”

I lived there while I was working at West Penn way back when. It was OK then, too.

Pittsburgh Tribune Review has better coverage....including comments from one TAMISHA Blah-Blah, who blames the incident on the PO-PO for not being present.

Ummm...this is a league for 4-7 year olds. Still babies.

If your kid needs ID and credentials to play, not to mention cops to keep you & them safe, perhaps you’re better off playing catch at home.

Stick a fork in that Obummer Academy nonsense. Or deal with your dead and remember you reap what you have sown with your racially-tinged vote.

such as when they get their heads handed to them in a sporing event

I think that's what happens mainly under the stands, not in front of them.
