The Tea Party Will Win in the End (Frank Rich literally compares conservatives to cockroaches)
New York Magazine ^ | 10/15/12 | Frank Rich

Such is the power of denial that we simply refuse to concede that, by the metric of intractability, at least, conservatives are the cockroaches of the American body politic, poised to outlast us all.

He said “conservatives”, not Republicans.

He must like Republicans.

Frank obviously learned volumes about cockroaches during his years as a NYC restaurant critic.

Being well-versed in both American history and also the conservative movement, it’s fascinating to read these articles sometimes.

Take this quote “In the years between 1964 and 2012, presidents and wars both hot and cold have come and gone, as have countless culture wars, and yet the fundamental split on government’s role is much as it was when the right catapulted Goldwater to the top of a national ticket. The conservative credo has remained fixed even when it has been dishonored by its own camp (e.g., the free-spending administration of Bush 43). By contrast, the liberal faith that once seemed immutable to Lionel Trilling has been constantly downsized and muddied since the sixties. In the Obama era, it has become inchoate and defensive.”

They still don’t get it. After all these years, they still don’t get it. Conservatism at its very core, is about limiting power while liberalism at its very core is about expanding it. Also, for liberty to expand, government must contract and vice-versa. Conservatives revere the Constitution because it is a check to power and a preserver of liberty. Liberals dislike the Constitution precisely because it limits their power and gets in the way of their plans.

These power battles have been going on since time (and governments) began. Liberals seem to think that history began with Franklin Roosevelt and anybody who is against the do-gooders is a kook, a crank, a know-nothing, etc. I myself have been asked “how could you be a republican, you’re so well-informed?”

Conservatives will indeed be around long after everybody else is gone, not because they are conservatives, but because they stand for liberty before anything else because, without liberty, nothing else is worthwhile.

These elitist liberals make me sick.
They are pompous idiots. I would love to have a debate with this particular one. He can choose the subject. It won't matter, I have either read, wrote, or patented it.
Idiots like this, will never get “it”. They belong to a species somewhat like ours, but incapable of adapting when presented with actual real world facts.
I do not pity them, rather, I try not to step in them, as it makes my shoes smell bad.

Just like conservative principles are superior to those of Marxist/Leftists, so the cockroach is superior to the tyannasaurus rex, which thought itself magnificent, and the dodo bird, which was too dense to think.

Conservatism IS about limiting power.

It's about limiting government power.

It's also about expanding personal power.

Liberalism/Progressivism/Marxism/Communism IS about expanding power.

It's about expanding government power to draconian levels.

It's about limiting personal power.

Only in the warped emotions of a Liberal can the producers in society be called parasites and the freeloaders be called champions. These clowns need to be dropped in Benghazi square and see how long they last. Pathetic LOSERS.

perhaps voters still prefer the party of modest government activism to the party of no government.

Newspeak Translation: perhaps we can still lull the uninformed masses into a totalitarian state controlled by we socialists.

We don’t want to believe they’re hiding in plain sight in our own neighborhoods and offices.

Newspeak Translation: Why hasn't our socialist propaganda, brainwashing, intimidation and legal extortion crushed these capitalist running dogs into submission?

Journalists back then sneered...

Newspeak Translation: The ever faithful vanguard of the people were working to stifle liberty even then.

Goldwater groupies were often seen as flakes, not unlike the tea-party zanies besotted with Beck a half-century later.

Newspeak Translation: Goldwater groupies were often depicted by the press as flakes, not unlike the tea-party zanies besotted with Beck a half-century later.

There. Not so hard to understand Newspeak, after all?

Goldwater’s ideas—bizarre and otherwise—would eventually change the trajectory of the country, as Barack Obama would acknowledge, to some Democrats’ dismay, when appraising Reagan’s legacy in 2008. But no matter how many times the conservative bogeyman came back from the dead along the way, liberals were shocked at every resurrection. Whether it was the rise of Reagan, the coming of Scalia-Thomas “originalism” to the Supreme Court, or the Gingrich revolution of 1994, we were always gobsmacked.
