McGovern admitted when he went into business after he retired from politics how intrusive the government was.

Read the Ambrose book about his World War II career as a pilot...I think it is called Wild Blue...good man...had convictions.

A decent man and patriot, who labored under some foolish ideas, but came to repent many of them when he went into business after leaving politics. I would rather see him President-for-Life than endure the re-election of Barack Obama.

Just got a piece of junk election mail with his name on it...frankly, I had thought he already had passed away.

For some reason, I am suddenly getting junk email from liberals. McGovern and Schumer are the two biggies that come to mind.

McGovern fought against card check the past several years. He was a member of an older generation of honorable Democrats.

He ran for president exactly 40 years ago.

He’s a great example of someone you can profoundly disagree with, yet respect.

I realize this is not his obituary, but I wonder where AP gets off by neglecting this aspect of his accomplishments, even in an article of that size:

“He volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Forces upon the country’s entry into World War II and as a B-24 Liberator pilot flew 35 missions over German-occupied Europe. Among the medals awarded him was a Distinguished Flying Cross for making a hazardous emergency landing of his damaged plane and saving his crew.”

From the Wikipedia entry on McGovern.

Married for 64 years before his wife passed in 2007. That’s an impressive number.

Tricky Dickie made him look a lot more radical than he was by planting crazy fake Hippies dancing like stoners around his campaign stops.

Dick Nixon was a good Cold Warrior but he was as Big Government as the Bush's at home.

Poor guy. I seem to recall that he had an alcoholic daughter that froze to death in a snowbank in Madison, WI. He has borne his share of sorrow.

He also wrote a very moving book about his daughter Terry’s alcoholism.

He really had no idea his voting record would ultimately lead us to socialism. An honorable man, but in tne end just another useful idiot.

I didn’t support him at all. I hope he’s not in pain, and that he has plenty of friends and family around him.
