Obama Admin Sets Aside Public Land Bigger Than Rocky Mtn National Park for Solar Development

CNSNews.com) – The Obama administration announced last week that it is setting aside 285,000 acres of public lands to be used for “commercial-scale solar development” – a total acreage amount that surpasses Rocky Mountain National Park, with 265,461 acres owned by the federal government.

“As part of President Obama’s all-of-the-above energy strategy to expand domestic energy production, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today finalized a program for spurring development of solar energy on public lands in six western states,” the Department of Interior press release on the new project states.

“The Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) for solar energy development provides a blueprint for utility-scale solar energy permitting in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah by establishing solar energy zones with access to existing or planned transmission, incentives for development within those zones, and a process through which to consider additional zones and solar projects,” the press release states.

A fact sheet accompanying the press release states that the project will include “economic incentives” for development of solar power in the 17 “energy zones.” The fact sheet does not provide details about those incentives but labels them “strong incentives.”

The fact sheet also states that the project “sets a clear process that allows for development of well-sited projects on approximately 19 million acres outside the zones,” and that the environment of public lands is being protected by designating 78.6 million acres off-limits for solar development.

The agency said the project’s announcement signifies that “the President’s goal of authorizing 10,000 megawatts of renewable power on public lands” has been achieved.

One question: Where exactly is the water going to come from? You know the scarce water that is being fought over almost everywhere, that water. The water to cool the solar panels, that water.

Why don’t they use some of the massive lands they already own? Shouldn’t the enviro-commies be protesting this? Never mind.

Pray for America

We need to make sure there’s not one bird, one lizard, one spider, one freakin’ gnat that will be impacted in ANY way by this project. Use their weapons against them.

I was in Colorado this May. They are ruining beautiful plots of land with tons of ugly solar panels.

This is insanity.

The president’s track record backing “GREEN” energy has been so sterling to this point. Nothing could go wrong here folks... /s

What about the environmental impact statements that typically delay major projects for years? Isn’t there some endangered bird, fish, reptile, mammal, insect or microscopic critter that will threatened by this development? Will all these regulatory barriers be waived so that one of Obama’s cronies can get rich off federal green energy subsidies before their company goes bankrupt?

This is far more of an ecological disaster than climate change, which is supposed to change, always has, always will.

Those enviro impact studies will prevent these panels from being installed — but only in California. That state has learned to take the money and NOT build the project (case in point, the high speed train). The other states will take the money, build the damned panels, and clean up the mess, at great expense, in 8 years’ time, when they fall apart.

Not to mention, by the time the generated electricity gets to a populated area, it’ll barely be enough to charge a Chevy Volt. Idiots!

With horizantal drilling, a good producing well will yield more energy in the long run and will only use about 100 square yards of land.

Basically, my back yard.

The Restoration of State Lands Act has to be a priority for Republicans and conservatives.

http://strangemaps.files.wordpress.com/2008/06/map-owns_the_west.jpg

Enough is enough! Since Teddy Roosevelt, almost every president has “proclaimed” more state land for the federal government. It doesn’t just have to be stopped, it must be reversed.

Outside of treaty Indian reservations and military reservations, and a few “crown jewel” national parks, the feds have no legitimate claim to the rest of American they have snatched.

84.5% of Nevada. 70% of Alaska. Half of every other western state. They must give most of it back. It’s not theirs!

“We need to make sure there’s not one bird, one lizard, one spider, one freakin’ gnat that will be impacted in ANY way by this project. Use their weapons against them.”

Imagine hundreds, or thousands of square miles covered with solar panels. No vegetation, no bugs, no birds, no critters of any kind. These installations absolutely devastate any land they occupy.
