MSNBC's Chris Matthews on Tuesday made a rather startling prediction about viewers of the upcoming presidential debate.
"If it looks like [Obama's] getting beaten again, theyre going back to the fourth inning" of the Yankees-Tigers American League Championship game (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: I say its the first two minutes. People are watching the Yankees game from eight to nine. Theyre going to tune this in at nine. Theyre going to be a little late, but theyre going to be looking to see the tone of it. If it looks like the guys getting beaten again, theyre going back to the fourth inning.
JOHN HEILEMANN, NEW YORK MAGAZINE: Well, thats true.
MATTHEWS: Anyway, thank you John Heilemann, thank you Joan Walsh, and David Corn. The guys agree: its baseball first if this guy blows it.
Yes, the liberals on set agree. However, moderates and conservatives around the country will likely stay with the debate if Mitt Romney is winning because they know this is far more important than baseball.
We'll learn the truth when the ratings come out.
Stay tuned.
I was thinking if the Yankees were getting beat, they’d switch over and watch Obama get what little brains he has bashed in again.
Don’t worry Chris, take your Zoloft and read the script MSNBC got from the administration.
You might have to wait awhile on that. A-rod is benched.
I’m watching the Tigers and voting for Romney
I’m watching the Tigers and voting for Romney
Obviously he can’t do it tonight but I think Romney would help himself a little in Michigan if he were to make an appearance at Comerica park. He doesn’t need to speak, just get a shot of him on camera watching.
Hopefully so are enough of your fellow Michiganders.
I don’t know about watching any Yankees game, but the Detroit Tigers are playing somebody for the ALCS. Can’t think of who.
I’m watching the TIGERS game tonight, not the Yankees. I already voted, anyway.
No, people will stay and watch the fun and carnage, moonbats will switch. .
During the first Romney / Obama debate, Miguel Cabrera won the triple crown.
During the Ryan / Biden debate, Verlander pitched a complete game shutout and eliminated the A’s. (122 pitches)
Seems that good things happen for the Tigers on Debate nights.
It doesn’t seem to occure to Chris Matthews that conservatives are ‘people’ too. Everything out of Matthews mouth is an insult.
I would love to see a rematch of the ‘68 World Series.
One for the history books.
Mickey Lolich and Bob Gibson in game 7. Dang, that was great.
OH yeah, ‘lil Crissy M. will have a ‘tinkle’ down his leg this time.
