Post-Debate CNN Poll: Romney Buries Obama On Economy

Like the CBS poll, Obama won the overall debate, 46-39%, but Romney beat him senseless on all the important individual issues like the economy, health care, deficit, and taxes.

Economy: Romney wins 58-40%

Health care: Romney wins 49-46%.

Taxes: Romney wins 51-44%.

Deficit: Romney wins 49-36%.

Strong leader: Romney wins 49-46%.

According to this poll, taken after the debate. Romney beats Obama in virtually every category. But by a 6 point margin they say Obama won the debate. Are we starting to see the "Bradley Effect" take hold, where a segment of the population claim to support the black candidate, but when you drill down into the details they really are supporting the other candidate, but don't want the pollster to think they are racist.

I think that's exactly what you're seeing.

What someone called "the soft bigotry of low expectations."

"Someone" in this case would be George W. Bush's speechwriter Michael Gerson.

When you’re all alone and it’s just you and the voting booth....Romney wins. He’s got the lead in all the factor’s that matter in this election and people will vote accordingly.

It may also the likability factor again. So, voters have two choices: go with the guy who’s likable but fails in policy or with the guy who’s okay but seems to know what he’s doing.

Economy: Romney wins 58-40%

If James Carville/Bill Clinton were right and in presidential elections it's always "The economy, Stupid". Then Obama is finished, no if, ands, or buts.

I loved it when Obama tried to claim that higher gas prices proved that his economic policies were working and that lower gas prices was an outcome of “failed Bush policies.”

Now I’m sure that Obama probably believes that and the lib koolaid drinkers lapped that up, but any self thinking individual should say, “If a failed policy costs me less money at the pump, then give me those policies again.”

I just wish Romney would have come back with something like, "So the economy was in a depression during the 1980's and 1990's when gas averaged less than $1.50 a gallon, but was roaring during the Carter years when there were high gas prices and gas lines?"

People (including the media) are equating ‘winning’ with the WWF wrestling factor. Who was more ‘commanding’ or whatever.

The bottom line is Romney appealed to the undecided voter last night, Obama appealed to his base. If you’re a few weeks away from election day, and still solidifying your base, can you really ‘win’ the debate.

I think Romney did a good job pounding on the economy, and selling himself as the man to fix it. Obama pounded on his 2008 election themes (fantastically ignoring the fact that he has been president for a full term). No matter what the polling says, how can Barry ‘win’ with that strategy?

Ultimately, this was the most important issue of the night- and Romney trounced Obama on it.
