The Al Smith Dinner and Our Pro-Abortion President
National Review Online ^ | October 16, 2012 | Jack Fowler

Turns out that many board members (former NBC boss Robert Wright, developer John Zuccotti, moneyman Peter Kiernan III) of the Smith Foundation are well-heeled, big-time supporters of pro-abortion Democratic lawmakers. This includes good old Al Smith IV, the foundation’s chairman. Records at the Federal Election Commission and OpenSecrets.org show that over the years he has rained campaign cash on every Schumer, Rodham, Clinton, Kerry, Dodd, and Kennedy he could find. My favorite: On June 28, 2007, Smith contributed $500 to the PAC run by ultra pro-abortion Democratic congressman Jerry Nadler, listing on the FEC donation record that his occupation was chairman of St. Vincent’s Hospital. How nice: a Catholic hospital bigwig bankrolling an abortion zealot.

Cardinal Dolan should condemn the Al Smith Foundation as a pro-abortion organization, and refuse to accept any of its blood-money.

Hi Father.
Few things are harder to understand as a trying-to-be-faithful Catholic than the Church's reluctance to publicly separate itself from these Pro Abort nominally Catholic politicians.

As a Catholic, I am conflicted by this event. Is taking blood money acceptable to my Church? Many Catholics who are pro-life find it confusing that many other Catholics are pro-choice. Catholic politicians, e.g. Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Joe Biden and the late Ted Kennedy, all embraced abortion as a women’s right to choose. Then, we have HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, another Catholic, out there ready to enforce Obamacare, whereby the administration overrules Catholic teaching. It’s no wonder 0Bamma scored the majority of Catholic votes in ‘08. Still, as a pro-life Catholic (i.e., following the teachings of the Church), I am very confused by my own Church’s behavior...

You need not be confused. Pro-abortion Catholic politicians exist because cowardly, worldly, corrupt, partisan Democrat bishops exist.
