BEN STEIN'S DIARY: Something Went Wrong Tonight
American Spectator ^ | 10.17.2012 | Ben Stein

Posted on 10/17/2012 11:55:19 AM PDT by imardmd1

But when he was asked a question about Pres. Obama's response to the murders by an al Qaeda affiliate in Benghazi, Mr. Romney completely got flustered by an outright lie by Mr. Obama.

Mr. Obama falsely said that he had called the murders in Benghazi a terrorist act the day after September 11. Gov Romney was seemingly bewildered about what to say. Mr. Obama further told the outrageous untruth that in a democracy, the President should not be criticized over a defense/foreign policy disaster.

Was Romney befuddled on nailing Obama's obvious, deliberate, and outrageous lie in this last debate?

“Mr. Obama further told the outrageous untruth that in a democracy, the President should not be criticized over a defense/foreign policy disaster.”

Does President Doofus realize that America is not a democracy?

Actually I think he was taken aback by Candy Cruller’s Ed McMahon imitation. “You are correct sir. HA HA HA!!!”

It was the weakest response the entire night by Romney. He seemed tepid when this issue arose. It didn’t help that Jaba the C interjected her falsehood.

Probably what “flustered” him was that he knew he couldn’t jump up and shout “YOU LIE!” like he wanted to.

Of course Romney was confused. Any normal person would be. He KNEW he had O dead to rights ... And yet CC was confirming O’s story. Since Romney couldn’t say “BS!!” on tv, what was left to say?

Obama did his job during the debate which was not to debate the actual issues but to pound home the talking points of his campaign and keep Romney off track (is best Biden impersonation). Whenever Romney began to tie the knot (and it did take him too long to do it) he was interupted by obama or crowley. Crowley did say they would come back to the issue again but they never did, probably because Romney would win that point.

Mr. Obama further told the outrageous untruth that in a democracy, the Democrat President should not be criticized over a defense/foreign policy disaster.

Looks like a word or two got misplaced in the quote, so I fixed it. How many times did a Senator (D-wherever) go to the well of the Senate and criticize Reagan or either of the Bushes about a foreign policy issue?

The narcissist is showing his thin skin yet again.

There are those who think that Gov. Romney is holding that response for the next debate which is on foreign affairs, the perfect place to light a stink bomb and watch Mr. Obama respond to it. In the meantime, the issue percolates, which can't be beneficial to Team Obama.

A further excerpt:

Even worse, as I keep saying, is Mr. Obama's anti-Constitutional pretention that no one is allowed to criticize him on foreign policy or else it's "playing politics."

To this, Mr. Romney should have said that it is the essence of a free people that the elected officials can and must be criticized for their mistakes. Otherwise, we do not have a democracy.

Incredible view on the President's accountability to the nation! What a redimensioning of Obama's arrogance!

He may have not been ready for the question, but I’m willing to give him a pass on that.

Ben Stein is a bit of an oddity. Sometimes he seems like he supports conservatives, but I don’t get the feeling he’s completely on board. I’ve seen times where he’s been like everyone else in the media, fawning over Obama.

I consider him maybe a slight step above Peggy Noonan.

How many times before the debate did OZombie blame the video? We can only be surprised he didn't use his old crutch excuse once again (with fawning media in full agreement)?

Any who questions the murder of the Ambassador and his staff must be like chalk on a blackboard to Obama.

Noting he didn't champion that he banned drilling in half of Alaska's oil reserves this past week? He's the great "energy independence" hypocrite president.

well, I rather like his blog, but only on a personal basis. I love his stories about his summer home, his dogs, etc.. he has failing health and I find that interesting when he talks about that.

his political analysis is suspect because he really does feel these are the end times, so he sees things in a very negative light.

I do like the man, and I enjoy his writing.
