George Will: Hofstra presidential debate ‘immeasurably the best’ in American history
Daily Caller ^ | 3:44 AM 10/17/2012 | Jeff Poor

During ABC’s wrap-up of Tuesday night’s presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., Washington Post columnist George Will proclaimed that the debate was “immeasurably the best” in American history.

“[I] think there was a winner in the sense that Barack Obama not only gained ground that he lost, but he cauterized some wounds that he inflicted on himself by seeming too diffident and disengaged,” Will said. “Both men tonight, I think, tip-toed right up to the point of rudeness, but stepped back. It was a very good fight. I have seen every presidential debate in American history since the floor of Nixon and Kennedy in 1960. This was immeasurably the best.”

Like his Washington Post colleague Charles Krauthammer, Will gave the win to Obama.

“I think the president’s tactical victory was on trying to get Mitt Romney to un-ring a bell, which is very hard to do,” Will continued. “First was on self-deportation and immigration. Mitt Romney probably gained some ground with Hispanics by stressing something by which they’re very unhappy — the president’s failure to come up with immigration reform. But the self-deportation phrase that Mitt Romney used during the primary is hard to get out from under.”

Will said he was particularly impressed with the president’s timing when he jabbed Romney for his “47 percent” remarks.

“The president held his fire on the 47 percent until he had the last word in the debate,” Will said. “That is, he used it in his summation in a way that Mitt Romney could not explain or respond to. So, I think as a tactical measure tonight, the president did very well, indeed.”

Watch Obama's poll numbers tumble after 'immeasurably the best' debate in American history, and immeasurably, Obama is going to ultimately lose the election.

Really? Sometimes George Will says things and he sounds like he knows what he’s talking about. Other times he says stuff you picture him as a very tiny little man trying to sound big and impressive. Sort of like the Wizard of Oz. This is one of those moments for George.

There are a lot of theoretically “conservative” pundits that have been living inside the beltway for way too long.

George Will is a “money” slut. I have despised him for decades.

What about this, George ?

It is SOOO obvious that the Crowley “fact check” was coordinated with Obama in advance.

At: :14 Romney starts he statement about how Obama did not call the attack terrorism.

At :29 Obama smugly tells Romney to proceed.

At :38 Obama tells Crowley “Get the transcript!”

At: :39 (possibly before the word transcript even completely leaves Obama’s mouth) Crowley states “he did infact”

That is the reason we do not listen to quislings. Obama lost because he has a bad record and lied covering it. These dopes change no minds, Why? Because they are dopes.

You must be an old timer to remember George Will saying anything worth reading.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but, I haven’t heard the rest of the media report it as such...maybe because I haven’t been watching the tube today just listening to radio. I believe this is a figment of Will’s imagination!! I’m I right?

They're certainly trying to keep the bar as low as possible.

George has much in common with Obama, they both think they are the smartest guys in the room. To them lies told gracefully win debate points. To the hoi polloi they just brand the man telling the lie a liar. BTW, Romney is a couple of sigmas smarter than both of them which is why Romney will be the next POTUS.

In politics, when you are explainin, you are losing. And they are really explainin today.

The more they talk about this the more it shows they are in dire straits. Lie their way in and get caught, and lie their way out and get caught.

The last incident of anything worth quoting from ol’ George, it was not even about politics; it was about the beautiful things that can be made from trees.....from wood, i.e., furniture, pianos, baseball bats, etc.

And El Rushbo quoted him. But the fact that it WAS relative to TREES is an indicator that it was away back when Reagan was President and the tree huggers were riled up. They seemingly only get riled when we have a Republican POTUS.

Step away from the bong, George.

Actually, the bong would probably help George.

Hofstra presidential debate ‘immeasurably the best’ in American history

I guess if you ignore the fat lady, Crowley's deliberate interference, and Obambi's constant lying, and the cleaning up of the questions for Obambozo, and the interruptions of Romney, and the big fatso smiling at Obambozo after it was over . . . then I guess George Will would get a tingle up his leg.

Will is actually right on this, in that be describes Obama as winning a tactical victory.

What he fails to do is talk about how it was a massive strategic defeat for Obama. His writing indicates that he’s too close to the subject matter and wrapped up in the sparring and isn’t seek g the bigger picture.
