George Will: Hofstra presidential debate ‘immeasurably the best’ in American history
Daily Caller ^ | 3:44 AM 10/17/2012 | Jeff Poor

During ABC’s wrap-up of Tuesday night’s presidential debate at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., Washington Post columnist George Will proclaimed that the debate was “immeasurably the best” in American history.

“[I] think there was a winner in the sense that Barack Obama not only gained ground that he lost, but he cauterized some wounds that he inflicted on himself by seeming too diffident and disengaged,” Will said. “Both men tonight, I think, tip-toed right up to the point of rudeness, but stepped back. It was a very good fight. I have seen every presidential debate in American history since the floor of Nixon and Kennedy in 1960. This was immeasurably the best.”

Like his Washington Post colleague Charles Krauthammer, Will gave the win to Obama.

“I think the president’s tactical victory was on trying to get Mitt Romney to un-ring a bell, which is very hard to do,” Will continued. “First was on self-deportation and immigration. Mitt Romney probably gained some ground with Hispanics by stressing something by which they’re very unhappy — the president’s failure to come up with immigration reform. But the self-deportation phrase that Mitt Romney used during the primary is hard to get out from under.”

Will said he was particularly impressed with the president’s timing when he jabbed Romney for his “47 percent” remarks.

“The president held his fire on the 47 percent until he had the last word in the debate,” Will said. “That is, he used it in his summation in a way that Mitt Romney could not explain or respond to. So, I think as a tactical measure tonight, the president did very well, indeed.”

Obama had a Candyprompter for the debate.

Sounds like Will is head-over-heels impressed with Obama. Did he blather on about the crease in his pants too?

Not one point of fault with Obama`s performance? Not one?

It doesn't really matter what George Will thinks. He has the beltway "points" mentality. Most people will respond impressionistically if at all. Let's see what the polls say, and go from there.

The insufferable enemedia has been doing a victory lap all day long, spewing all sorts of nonsense about a Zippy "win" - the comical part is that I haven't seen a detailed, plausible explanation as to the HOW he "won". I noticed immediately at the end of the debate the commentators were stuttering around trying to explain the debate and always fumbled their way into criticizing Romney. No reporting the news, they have to manufacture it and it's blatant. Traitors all.

So how does one win a debate when almost every point is made on lies? Fast & furious AND the Libyian debacle will be brought up again at the next debate.

Even Krauthammer is a little off. It’s not a game like adding up points for jabs and soft punches. It’s who landed the biggest punches. That would have been Romney. Romney landed a huge right cross about Obama’s disastrous economy. Obama had no answer.

Can you trust anything from someone who makes a statement like this? I realize he has been losing it over the years, but this is the icing on the cake.

Will should stick to writing about baseball. He sometimes writes a pretty good column on that subject.

Nowadays, everything is either the best or the worst ever.

I guess Will had this notion. Maybe he tried to check it by thinking of a debate that was better. He couldn't think of one and went with his hunch.

I think it's ridiculous and he's wrong. But let's follow up with the exercise: which was the best presidential debate ever?

Maybe the problem is that people only remember the great failures. A successful debate performance doesn't really attract attention.

George Will is the worst kind of Republican, that being the culturally accepted kind.

He feels that he must go out of his way to be deferential to Dems and bad mouth conservatives, so that he will continue to get the invites and be treated as the “reasonable Republican”.

Other people just call them sell outs.

George, I swear to Gawd your meds aren’t working anymore.

You need to throw in the towel. Seriously, you are embarrassing yourself and I pity seeing someone who still believes his words have relevance, without realizing time has passed him by.

George Will just cares about his job working for liberals and being invited to liberal parties.. and being treated as smart by liberal swags.. Which if they had any sense they wouldn’t even be liberals..

Will is not very smart.. or has many “values”..
He is the republican Eddie Haskell.. i.e. Wally’s friend..
The sneaky con man.. snake.. shill.. phoney..
