Van Buren is a very rural county next to mine, so rural it doesn't have either a stoplight or a railroad line within it's boundaries. Violent crime is non-existent there and I can't remember the list time there was a shooting.

Brighton where the guy was from is two counties away. Have NO idea what they hell he was doing, sound like he was hopped up on bath salts.

Other likely scenarios:

3) Wanted on felony warrants.

2) Convicted felon (knows he shouldn’t have gun, doesn’t want to go back to jail)

1) Suicide-by-cop.

Suicide by cop. He chose the highway so someone would see him and call the cops. He chose not to drop the rifle to get the result he desired. 59.. Too old to find a job, too young to collect Social Security = Screwed by 0bama.

Wow. Nothing ever happens in Cantril. There are a lot of meth labs in the area, though.

Update, the story deepens. From KCJJ radio:

‘KCJJ has learned from multiple sources that former Johnson County supervisor candidate Mike Dooley was shot to death by Van Buren County deputies on Tuesday after he allegedly pulled a rifle on them. Dooley was a regular guest on KCJJ, calling into the station as recently as Thursday for an on-air interview after his recent arrest near Sharon Center.’

When was the last time you heard of someone with a gun "surrendering" and living long enough to be charged?

The Hollywood "Drop it!" is up there with Hogwarts and dragons in modern fiction. If you have a gun in your hand and a cop sees it, you're going to die, right then.

"BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG! Drop it!" is the new SOP.

AND, the cop is going to walk.

They wonder why nobody trusts them.

Interesting that it’s always assumed folks are out of work, and being screwed by the president....Dooley had plenty of work, farming land in and around the CR / IC area.
