WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Applications for U.S. unemployment benefits jumped 46,000 to a seasonally adjusted 388,000 in the week of Oct. 7-13, the Labor Department said Thursday, erasing the sharp drop from the prior week. Claims had fallen two weeks ago to a four-year low, but the decline mainly stemmed from a statistical quirk in the data that often happens at the end of a quarter and it was not reflective of a rapidly improving labor market.

The rate of change was a 13.45% from last week. That was the highest in five years.

NO.

These numbers are only for this week. last week they left out california ( and didn't say that in the headlines). They faked everything for that week of the economic debates so Romney wouldn't use high unemployment or the no jobs argument against Obama( it was an attempt to silence Romney in the debates now that the debate is foreign policy the real numbers come out).
They faked the 7.8% unemployment rate just so Romney couldn’t hit Obama with over 8% unemployment in the debate. Now these numbers show they faked it.

My guess is that they’re still faking it. Today’s real number is >400,000.

Yep. Ben completely lost his senses at some point in the past 5-10 years. Either senility or Hollywood syndrome kicked in. He no longer makes any sense.

If one were to take a 30 year chart of this number, there is no way to truthfully say 400,000 is the line where things are bad. The number has been between 350,000 and 400,000 for the entire Obama term, and were consistently much lower in the decades previous to this current economy.

ALL the real numbers are probably worse than they are releasing. Even at that, the most compelling two minutes of the debate was Romney reciting the fake bad numbers.

No, it was Bush's fault.

October 7 thru 13 was short work week, because of Columbus Day, a Federal holiday.

Typically, for holiday weeks, the number reported is significantly LESS than numbers for full weeks.

Gee. I wonder why we didn't hear this two weeks ago when every MSM news organization was screaming that the economy was back on track. It was a statistical quirk that OFTEN HAPPENS. The MSM is a danger to this nation with its lies and spin.

That number is still low as many States are having problems processing the new claims. Colorado is 1-2 months behind and hiring as fast as they can and the computer systems are overloaded and making mistakes. This keeps many off that new UI application count. Colorado has 180,000 on UI when 30,000 is normal.

Does this include California* where Gov. Moonbeam Brown is driving the state into the ground?

*The unemployment rate of 7.8% that was announced the Friday after the first debate (First Friday of October) excluded California and has yet to be adjusted up from 7.8% but will be adjusted up (probably after the election).

That number is suspect, because last week they left out one state in the overall numbers. California, IIRC.

Did they include ALL states this time?

Will there be one more of those on Friday November 2nd or is that too soon after October ends to have the number released?

“In other news, the jobless rate unexpectedly fell to 3.6%.”

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.

Unemployment rates decline as the supply of Soylent Green increases.
