Gallup: 3.4% of U.S. Adults Identify as LGBT
Gallup ^ | 10/18/2012 | Gary J. Gates and Frank Newport

PRINCETON, NJ -- The inaugural results of a new Gallup question -- posed to more than 120,000 U.S. adults thus far -- shows that 3.4% say "yes" when asked if they identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender.

These results are based on responses to the question, "Do you, personally, identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender?" included in 121,290 Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted between June 1 and Sept. 30, 2012. This is the largest single study of the distribution of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) population in the U.S. on record. By comparison, the General Social Survey, a project of NORC at the University of Chicago, asked a sexual orientation question in its 2008 and 2010 survey of about 2,000 adults in each year. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Survey of Family Growth asked a sexual orientation question of about 12,000 young adults aged 18 to 44 in 2002 and of more than 20,000 adults in its 2006-2010 survey. The 3.4% figure is similar to a 3.8% estimate made by one of the authors of this study (Gates), averaging a group of smaller U.S. surveys conducted from 2004 to 2008.

Exactly who makes up the LGBT community and how this group should be measured is a subject of some debate.

the professionals have for years determined through scientific means that in the US there are only two(2)% homosexuals - slightly more for men and slightly less for females. This has been posted on FR in years past. Gallop is off. I don’t have the studies but have read them.

The activists say they have 10% strong.

Hard to believe that portion of the population is so screwed up.

"Genetic predispositions"? We're still at the "maybe, maybe not" stage on whether that even exists.

Even if you grant that it exists, the question that follows is, "So what?"

One could then argue that serial killers are genetically predisposed to violence. Does that excuse their actions? Do we, as a society, then grant them blanket immunity because they were "born that way?"

I reject genetic predisposition as an excuse. Whatever weaknesses you may or may not be born with, you are still accountable for your actions!

We are pretty convinced that alcoholism is a genetic condition, yet we still expect alcoholics to avoid drinking and driving or buying liquor for minors. So, the question of whether homosexuality is genetic or not is entirely moot! It's homosexual acts that are morally offensive and inherently wrong. This also dismisses the straw man "Don't tell me who I can love" argument. It's not about who you love, it's about who you have sex with!

Regardless of your genetic predisposition(s) or emotional leanings, you can still choose whether or not to commit homosexual acts. That's where the trouble lies.

Thing is, it’s in line with most of the modern surveys that come up with numbers between 1-4%

And it totally refutes Kinseys claim of this magical 10%, which most of us realized was BS from the start

Since it's hard to check the Race box for Black, if you're white, you can at least claim "Homo" as sexual orientation to be able to Sue for Discrimination on Applications.

Two hetero men will be able to claim "Partners", and gain the benefits of Marriage/Couple in seeking rent, mortgages, etc., to game the system.

Why not answer a Poll as being a sex deviate (fag or dyke), and have fun fooling them?

waiters that sashay up to your table
men who spend too long in spandex tights for any reason
men who don’t own guns and have track lighting
anyone who wants to redecorate my reloading room
men who use hair remover
anyone who votes for democrats
etc. etc

It's a trick with numbers. Gallup would have made 1,347,667 phone calls and gotten only 9% to answer. Assuming gays answer ALL polls (just so they get a chance to answer the Gallup question about the GBLT community), they end up as .33%, and not 3.4%

PEW says the average poll results in a 91% non responsive response or a nonresponse where people just don't answer the phone

In the end the pollsters get only 9% of the folks they call to answer any questions at all.

GAYs and other interest groups with an axe to grind make sure they answer the calls from the pollsters ~ they are thereby over represented 1000%.

So, is it buried in there somewhere just where this sample of 120k came from? Not San Fagsicko by any chance?

It’s still 10 times too high ~ when you’re gay, so I”m told, any advertising is good advertising so they answer the calls from the pollsters and answer every question ~ and with this one in the mix, they manage to over-represent themselves substantially.

And to get 3.4%, they had to oversample San Francisco and Fire Island.

So it’s probably 1% really are and 2.4% are liberals who support the perverts and provided a sympathy vote.

So: we got 1% L, 1% G, 1% B, and 4/10ths of a percent T. How is it that these bobbleheads get to tell the rest of us what is trendy?

The key is the age statistics. 6.4% of age 18-29 identify that way, double the overall total. And they broke 18-29 down by gender, showing most of those are women, with 8.3% of women age 18-29 identifying that way, almost twice as much as men in that age group. The percentages by age steadily decrease down to 1.9% for over age 65.

This is called successful recruiting. They're targetting young people for recruitment into the lifestyle and succeeding, especially with women. And the gender difference is because there is less of a stigma against homosexual women than against homosexual men. The goal of the movement is to remove the stigma completely and get these numbers up, especially among young people who can be more easily recruited. This study shows they're succeeding.
