Bob Kerrey a baby-killer? Laughing, literate Bob Kerrey? So wondered Mary McGrory in the pages of the Washington Post. And so have many others wondered as, for the first time in years, the war in Vietnam has erupted once again in newspapers and opinion journals.
The last significant skirmish came in 1995, when former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara drew fire from all sides in declaring he had known early on that the U.S. had been wrong, terribly wrong in committing itself in the 1960′s to defend South Vietnam against Communist aggression.1 Now another round of recrimination and reproaches, as well as calls for an inquest and even a war-crimes tribunal, has greeted the revelation that Bob Kerrey, a former Senator from Nebraska who is now the president of the New School for Social Research in New Yorkand a decorated Vietnam veteranhad led a unit of Navy SEALs in a military operation in which civilians were killed, perhaps wantonly.

That said, Kerrey would make a horrible choice as Senator. "War Hero" isn't a reason to vote for somebody.
I don’t disagree with anything that you said and I would agree terrible things happen in war. What bother’s me most is the fact that he get a pass because of which side he is on. If this were Deb Fischer, do you think she would get a pass?

Needs to be repeated. No one can say anything bad about his patriotism or his bravery. He has proved that. However, he was one of the worst Governors or Senators in my lifetime when it came to the 2nd Amendment. He is liberal to the core.
BOB Kerry is a war hero whereas John Kerry is still a faker
“had led a unit of Navy SEALs in a military operation in which civilians were killed, perhaps WANTONLY.”
It sure would be nice if the media could keep racist, stereotype comments out of their reports. We all know, already, what they eat in that part of the world.
“I call BS on Kerrey being a War Criminal. Whatever Kerrey’s political views, what he did as a Navy Seal was good and proper.”
I’m with you. Easy to sit on our couches and beat up Kerrey, who was in the jungle attacking enemies that popped up out of nowhere and killed thousands of our soldiers.
I’ll give Kerrey a pass on this - I still want him to lose, but not because of his service to the country.
Actually, I found the article to be fairly even-handed, even if somewhat derivative. There’s really nothing new here: “bad things happen in war”.
Frankly, I don’t care. If I never hear another word about “atrocities” in Vietnam, I’ll be ok. I don’t know what masochistic instinct compels us to keep picking at that scab.
Bob Kerry was a POS governor, a POS senator. He left office and left the state for NY. He rarely came back to NE and if dirty harry had not offered a yet undisclosed payoff he would still be sitting at home in NY instead of contaminating NE. Winning a military honor, even the MOH is a point in time and does not make anyone automatically fit for leading anything.

No you’re thinking of John Kerry (who served in Vietnam)
One of the men on Kerry’s team was a career SEAL and went on to serve in the elite SEAL unit of SEAL Team 6 and is highly respected.
He says it was war crime and describes Kerry’s murder of civilians, he held down one of the civilians as Kerry slit mans throat.
