The Great Binder Blunder
National Review ^ | 10/19/12 | Mark Steyn

So the other morning a reader e-mails me a picture of a handful of women demonstrating outside the headquarters of the Ohio Republican party — in what we expert analysts round about this point in the quadrennial election cycle like to call the critical battleground of the Buckeye State. The women each wore two giant pieces of cardboard, front and back. Ah, I thought, a timely protest. These activists understand that, with Obama’s flatline economy drifting inexorably to a $20 trillion federal debt, we’ll soon be living in cardboard shacks in shantytowns in the parking lot of the bankrupt Solyndra factory. Or it’s what they’ll be using for the x-ray plates at your local hospital once the Obamacare rationing kicks in. Or maybe it’s the perfect visual metaphor for the flimsiness of U.S.-government security at its Middle Eastern embassies before the “Death to the Great Satan!” crowd punched through the compound like so much soggy cardboard.

But no. The women were chanting “Equal rights, not binders,” and they were protesting the following remarks by Mitt Romney at the presidential debate:

Don’t women dress up as women anymore? They have dressed as all kinds of things this year.

I find stuff like this fascinating. Its like a clinical laboratory experiment in mind control.

Binders. Lets all talk about binders.

And sure enough, like a fog filling the room, its all you hear.

Doesn’t work with me, in fact I find I’m immune to most of this kind of thing. Whats my secret? I don’t watch TV news. I don’t let these people into my home or into my head.

I’m still mystified that the Dems with all the huge problems convulsing the country think it’s a smart idea to pursue binder-gate. I’m tempted out of pity to tell them that this is a real loser of a campaign strategy. But if they want to keep shooting themselves in their big feet with Big Bird-gate and binder-gate, I guess I should tell them to go ahead.

Romney didn’t assemble the “binder” full of women...he indicated his staff delivered the resumes to him in a binder, a common office supply to assist in organizing data before computers were commonplace.

I retired from the phone company, and while I was there we had to have a lot of extra shelves installed to hold all of the binders it took to organize the data we needed to track.

On the other hand, Obama never worked anywhere, so he wouldn’t have any concept of the purpose of binders. He still doesn’t.

The libs are even claiming that the binders were full of women’s pictures, trying to add perversion to the equation,

They’re all sick.

AND

How is keeping binders of women worse than coercing young females to polish your k***b in the oval office?

"I don't get"

Because the morons think Romney was implying he had binders of women for sexual purposes...or something...I think. Actually, it's so stupid you've got to wonder if the people at the Dem campaign headquarters have totally lost their minds with this loser of a strategy.

“How many binders of women do you suspect Bill Clinton kept in his office?”

____

Probably a few, but that was for an entirely different purpose, like employment for an hour or so in return for a large monetary consideration.

Romney’s description of deliberately searching for qualified women to nominate is an annoying act of “affirmative action”, but it should be seen as a plus to feminists who say we need more women in top posts, not an insult.

I have tried to follow this - but can’t. Is this comment being taken by Obama that Romney doesn’t have any women cronies or relatives or daughters of lobbiests to hire - and actually has to look through some resumes?

Or is there something in the term “binder” that is either sexist (like breast or foot binding) or is old-fashioned (’binder’ - Romney can’t use a computer?) Or is it because he has “binders full of women” (how do they all fit in there!?), and not “binders full of women’s resumes”?

Sounds like whoever prepped Biden on his debate has taken over the entire campaign.

“Binder!!!??? HaHaHaHaHa.. Did he say a BINDER!!??? WOW - a BINDER????!!! Come over to my house. HaHaHaHa”

Well yes, just goes to show:
Liberal women vote between their legs.
Conservative women vote between their ears.

"Actually, it's so stupid you've got to wonder if the people at the Dem campaign headquarters have totally lost their minds with this loser of a strategy."

For a while now, I've been wondering if God, having gotten fed up with the Israel-hating, anti-Christ, baby-murdering, Muslim-loving bunch in the White House, has sent a spirit of confusion into their midst. They've been digging their holes deeper and deeper, almost as though they're in a fog of incomprehension. And this binder stupidity further confirms my idea (to me, anyway).

Nail on the head. The irony of this entire story.
