Documents show Stevens worried about Libya security threats, Al Qaeda before consulate attack

Across 166 pages of internal State Department documents -- released Friday by a pair of Republican congressmen pressing the Obama administration for more answers on the Benghazi terrorist attack -- slain U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and the security officers assigned to protect him repeatedly sounded alarms to their superiors in Washington about the intensifying lawlessness and violence in Eastern Libya, where Stevens ultimately died.

On Sept. 11 -- the day Stevens and three other Americans were killed -- the ambassador signed a three-page cable, labeled "sensitive," in which he noted "growing problems with security" in Benghazi and "growing frustration" on the part of local residents with Libyan police and security forces. These forces the ambassador characterized as "too weak to keep the country secure."

In the document, Stevens also cited a meeting he had held two days earlier with local militia commanders. These men boasted to Stevens of exercising "control" over the Libyan Armed Forces, and threatened that if the U.S.-backed candidate for prime minister were to prevail in Libya's internal political jockeying, "they would not continue to guarantee security in Benghazi."

Steven’s was treying to say he was being set up. He should have been IMMEDIATELY recalled.

SEPTEMBER 13, 2012 State Department Briefing:

QUESTION: Can you talk a little bit more about the security that was at the Embassy? It seems that for an area such as Benghazi, where there was a lot of instability, there were very few guards there. And can you talk about whether the U.S. asked Libya, the Libyan Government, earlier in the week for extra security precaution. It does seem though that there were very few security personnel at this location.

MS. NULAND: I’m going to reject that, Elise. Let me tell you what I can about the security at our mission in Benghazi. It did include a local Libyan guard force around the outer perimeter. This is the way we work in all of our missions all around the world, that the outer perimeter is the responsibility of the host government. There was obviously a physical perimeter barrier, a wall. And then there was a robust American security presence inside the compound. This is absolutely consistent with what we have done at a number of missions similar to Benghazi around the world.

Why would the Democrats get involved with Libya, Egypt and Syria? I don’t get it.

Unbelievably, CBS is running this story as the lead and it is extremely damning to Obama. I don’t know what’s going on over there, but CBS has been busting on Zero about every night on Libya, and they were about the only one to even bother to cover Fast and Furious.

Sinister 0bama’s WILLFUL UNDOING of America’s gains in the war on terror while assisting his Muslim Brothers conquer the world, realizing the Caliphate. What was 0bama’s middle name again? Forget his words, it’s the ACTIONS that tell all. Sad thing is, if Romney said this he’d be labeled ‘crazy’.

No, you're focusing on the dead diplomats. That's where you're making your mistake. Focus on the investigation and Obama's promise to fix things. That's what is important here.

Remember, we can't bring them back, but we can look to the future and make sure this doesn't happen until the next incompetent president shows up thirty plus years from now.

Just last night I listened to a report from a guy that blew the lid off the facts concerning the security detail at the Steven’s safe house.

Those two guys were not assigned there. When they heard Stevens was in trouble, they went over from the other Libya location, and tried to help. Evidently they did get a number of people out. Sadly their lives ended there with the Ambassador and one other staff member.

If the public knew this... OMG would there be a real s-storm.

I hadn’t heard this before. Perhaps others have.

It’s only time before all this comes out. And when it does, Obama will be walking and carrying his own golf clubs for the rest of his life.

You almost expect to see him in Las Vegas busting into a room armed, reclaiming some of his former belongings at some point.

Yea, 15K spread between 275 overseas missions and Stateside. If you could see the manning levels of State Employees (Foreign Service Officers/Specialists) in STATE Positions you would see there are many-many more as some folks are not what they appear to represent, e.g., state employees.
