(CBS News) In the weeks before his death, U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens sent the State Department several requests for increased security for diplomats in Libya.
Stevens and three other Americans were killed in a terror attack this past Sept. 11 at the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi and a separate attack that same night on a safe house where consulate staff had been evacuated.
Steven's memos to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is investigating attacks, show he personally pressed for strengthened security.
On July 9, 2012, Stevens sent a "request for extension of tour of duty (TDY) personnel." That refers to a 16-man military temporary security team with expertise in counter terrorism. They were set to leave in August, but Stevens asked to keep them "thru mid-September."
On August 2, six weeks before he died, Stevens requested "protective detail bodyguard potions," saying the added guards "will fill the vacuum of security personnel currently at post who will be leaving with the next month and will not be replaced." He called "the security condition in Libya ... unpredictable, volatile and violent." It's not known what happened to that request.

Why did Obama and Hillary want to mess with Libya, Egypt and Syria? What’s in it for them? Those two aren’t known for being freedom fighters. They are a couple of self-centered, self-serving money grubbers. What is there in those countries that they care about? Money? Drugs? Weapons? Oil? Money from somebody else for something they wanted there?
We will now see a Presidency self-destruct in slow motion.

Ambassador Stevens must have been mistaken, because the L.A. Slimes said Al Queda wasn’t involved in the attack.
The cover up is bad and needs to be exposed.
But I am concerned the GOP will stop there. I want to know WHO ignorned the intellegence from the ambassador because that is WHO did not care about and respond to that intellegence from the ambassador. I want to know what that person and his boss thought was more important than protecting Americans from jihadist attacks while we are supposedly in a war on terror against radical Islam!
Our government is busy persecuting people like this poor guy while the jihadists are free to murder Americans!
Mideast radicals are laughing with glee over the murder and sodomy of our American ambassador and the sad fact that the current administration is too fearful to make a strong response. I would love to use stronger language but don’t want to get banned.
I think we're the laughing stock of quite a few countries too. How inept we must look because of this lying, traitorous administration.
Wait for the administration to throw Stevens under the bus. Some stuff will come out, just wait, it’s their MO.
