After months of polls showing a dead heat in North Dakota's Senate race, a new survey conducted for Forum Communications Co. shows GOP Rep. Rick Berg breaking out with a 10-point lead.
The poll, conducted by Essman/Research, has Berg leading former Democratic Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp, 50 percent to 40 percent. Ten percent of respondents say they remain undecided.
Heitkamp has a slight advantage among independents (44 percent to 41 percent for Berg), while 15 percent remain undecided.
"I think the biggest takeaway from the poll would be the independents," said Deborah Stearns, vice president and marketing research director for Essman/Research, citing the 15 percent that remain undecided. "I think the independents could have an impact on that race."

Brown here in MA is probably going to lose. And really I’m shedding no tears for him but we need to make that seat up with another. A lot of the senate elections are close and hopefully a Romney sweep will drag some republicans over the line.
Think positive. Brown can win!
If true....this is a big breakout. With the strong Romney trend in the national polls he could start to pull up all the republican senate races.
On what data are you basing your prediction? I am in the 6th and Brown appears to be very strong here.
I think Brown will win. Warren is embroiled in a new scandal every week. She’s a terrible candidate.
Wow, this is great news if the numbers turn out to be correct.
“The biggest takeaway would be the independents”???
What crap.
The takeaway here is that Berg has a huge lead, which North Dakotans have suspected all along, despite the silly (Dem) Mason-Dixon poll which put the race neck-and-neck.
If this braindead lefty actually thinks the unpleasant frumpish old-hat Heitkamp is going to make up 13 points out of 15 percent undecided, especially in a race as sharply divided as this one, then she is even stupider than she is a p***-poor liar.
By the time this thing is all over the Democrats may loathe Obama more than Republicans.
Just a feeling I’ve been getting. I hope he does beat Warren but we’ll see.
