S. Africa's children still face apartheid-like inequality

CAPE TOWN — South Africa's children still face apartheid-like inequalities with a black child 18 times more likely to grow up poor than his or her white counterpart, a report said Wednesday.

The 2012 "South African Child Gauge," which provides an annual snapshot of the state of children in Africa's biggest economy, warned that the gap between rich and poor is widening despite a dip in overall poverty.

"We have among the highest rates of inequality in the world and it hasn't gotten better, it's got slightly worse," said co-author Katharine Hall, senior researcher at the University of Cape Town-based Children's Institute.

Sixty percent of children survive on less than 575 rand ($67, 51 euro), or around two thirds of black children 18 years and only two percent of white children.

"We see old patterns of inequality repeating themselves all the time so any way you cut you have repeated racial inequalities, you have spatial inequalities," Hall told AFP.

The 108-page barometer, which draws on multiple statistical sources and studies, says that income poverty levels have dipped for children overall.

"But stark differences in poverty headcounts, particularly between white and African children, illustrate the lasting effects of apartheid," it adds.

Most of the poorest children live in rural areas, still locked into apartheid's geography of living in the poor former quasi-independent homelands that were set up for blacks by the racist white minority government.

Perhaps you didn’t go beyond Cape Town and neighboring vineyards where tourists frequently visit?

Communism ain't about "equality."

Just the opposite, actually.

But the useful idiots never get it.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of near stone-age people living in SA. Their tribes and cultures are antiquated and do not prepare them for life in the modern world.

So unless the government is willing to force all school age children to attend boarding schools, away from the influence of their parents and tribes and cultures, there is nothing for these people but inevitable extinction because of natural selection.

Walking around in a breech cloth, carrying a spear and eating grubs is no way to live anymore.

I have read that the Haitian people are very hard workers.

Then why is Haiti so persistently messed up? When a country has hard-working poor people, there is an incentive to open some sort of factory, or even a call-center.

I've been to South Africa twice...neither visit was recent. What I saw there was breathtaking. The white people live very nicely indeed whereas the non-white areas were literally Third World.Even if every penny of wealth was taken from every white person it would still take 5 generations to get the population up to Second World status.

Part of it is evil, thieving, corrupt dictators (28 years of Papa Doc and Baby Doc). The favored economy of many a dictator is poverty. The sell it, they don’t try to change it. They get big dollars from charities, other countries, you name it. They don’t get the money out to the people—they feather their own nest while inflicting torture on citizens. That is all the UN does—sell poverty to feather their own nest. The UN doesn’t want poverty gone, if the UN couldn’t pretend to care for the poor nations— they would be out of business.

Just think what the United States would be like if Obama declared himself dictator for life—what would we become 15 years from now? Heck, look at Venezuela. We have got to change the way out government is handing out so much. Because in that giving, they nurture our 47% and that will build people who vote bad government in, soon the bad government becomes evil tyrants who will steal all from its people to feather their own nest.

The Haitians, like many Cubans come her to the states and work hard and build little businesses. I would say at a higher rate than the US blacks. Yes, Haitians are lazy and criminal but there are lazy criminal people in all countries. No, I don’t advocate to bring all the poor Haitians here but this handing out freebies the world over must stop or the world will be ruled by a corrupt UN.

I think it is time for people to stop looking to government to take care of them. They must trust in God and work, those who trust in God will help those in need willing to help themselves or who are unable. No more corrupt governments clamoring for money to help the poor whilst stuffing the money in their own pockets.

Behold the birds of the sky, that they neither sow nor reap, neither do they gather into barns, and your Father who is in Heaven sustains them; behold, are you not better than they?

Race in the Darkest Continent - “My tribe v. your tribe.”

Translates to “Me good fella get to run government. You just delicious”.

Your assumption is that they would not piss it all away in less than one generation.

How can that be since the blacks now run the country? This is BS. Trying to explain the poor performance of the blacks on racial problems.

Part of it is evil, thieving, corrupt dictators (28 years of Papa Doc and Baby Doc).

East Germany, Poland, and the rest of Eastern Europe spent longer under communist dictatorships. Hell, look at China.

Poland's per capita GDP is fifteen times that of Haiti, and getting close to Western Europe's.

The Haitians, like many Cubans come her to the states and work hard and build little businesses.

Or, rather, the subset of Haitians who have intelligence and a willingness to work come here, while the rest stay there. Much as happened with Cuba, where most of their middle class fled when Castro came to power, leaving the remaining society permanently crippled.

I don’t know that Haiti has had much time under good governance. I think that the UN has and continues to do more harm than help. The UN is a parasite to poor and rich nations alike.

Bah...I’ll get back to this later, I want to discuss but I’m stressing because my huband will be hollering any minute now! hahahaha!

Second presidency (2001–2004)

Aristide called for France, the former colonizer of the country, to pay $21 billion[54] in restitution to Haiti for the 90 million gold francs supplied to France by Haiti in restitution for French property that was misappropriated in the Haitian rebellion, over the period from 1825 to 1947. Later it was revealed that this claim of repayment from France might have been one of the main reasons behind the coup d’état of 2004

That socialist Aristide did much damage to Haiti all by himself.
