Akin: McCaskill fetches expansive government “like a dog”

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin said Democratic incumbent Claire McCaskill has fetched expansive government policies “like a dog” during her tenure in Washington.

Akin made the comparison during a fundraising event in Springfield, where he featured support from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, one of the few national Republicans still backing Akin after much of the party establishment distanced themselves from his candidacy following the controversy earlier in the race surrounding his comments about “legitimate rape.”

“She goes to Washington, D.C., it’s a little bit like one of those dogs, ‘fetch,’” he said. “She goes to Washington, D.C., and get all of these taxes and red tape and bureaucracy and executive orders and agencies and brings all of this stuff and dumps it on us in Missouri.”

Akin continued, “It seems to me that she’s got it just backwards. What we should be doing is taking the common sense we see in Missouri and taking that to Washington, D.C., and blessing them with more solutions instead of more problems.”

The remark was another in a series of quotes that could place more distance between Akin and female voters. Earlier this year, Akin questioned whether McCaskill was “lady-like” during their first debate, and during their second debate was criticized by McCaskill for his opposition to “equal pay” laws for women.

Akin, speaking to the audience Saturday evening, said the focus on issues other than the economy is a “distraction” by the McCaskill campaign from her tenure in office, and encouraged voter to compare her six years as a senator with his 12 years in the House.

So refreshing to see a person tell it like it is. I am so glad that this guy is not politically correct. The haters of this conservative will once again bash this hero.

Can some Akin supporter please chime into this thread and explain why the national GOP wants to embrace this guy, again?

Doesn’t sound very gentlemanly. If this guy wins I’ll be amazed.

Have never been an Akin supporter, I even chided his stupid comments about the rape issue but, he did not call her a dog, he was just using what some who know a little about the English language called an analogy. Basically, if the shoe fits, wear it, and she does quite well. Especially when you take the entire quote in its full context.

So, what exactly is it that you disagree with on the point he was making?

I am warming the fact that he says it like he means it, unlike those we already know of like McConnell and Boehnor.

Mitt needs a senate majority in order to get Obamacare defeated and the country back from the brink of fiscal disaster. Do you want dingy harry as senate majority leader again? The GOP needs to take the senate back and if it means Akin winning, so be it. What if Akin becomes the one and only one to give the republicans the 51st senator. Not only will we finally be rid of dingy harry but will be able to get Mitt's legislation passed rather than stalled.

Why are the only two alternatives the ones you point out? Is Allen West conservative enough for you? Ever see him make such a stupid analogy? There are some things you stay away from and this guy manages to keep making the wrong choice on verbiage. You are being elected to the Senate; it means you are representing ALL Missourians. It’s tough enough to win a Senate election as is (see George Allen, Macaca as an example). After fighting all the way back he tempts a loss with this comment.

They wouldn’t. They like big government fetching dogs.

His point was valid, but comparing women to dogs (in any context) just gives more ammunition to those who say he is insensitive to women. Akin may be conservative, but he talks before he thinks—he is not a sharp guy.

I love this guy now. I was on the fence about the other remark but on this one he's right on. These demonrat senators are nothing but lapdogs for Reid and Obama dutifully fetching progressivism back to their constituents.

I wonder sometimes if people like McCaskill even care what their support of the fascist in the WH does to their constituents.

The Libs say much, much worse things about Conservatives who, evidently, are just supposed to sit there and take it.

Media's going to love that one.

Latest Rasmussen poll has Akin down by 8 so it all may be academic anyway. We're likely going to be waking up on the 7th and wondering what might have happened if Akin hadn't been the nominee.

“Can some Akin supporter please chime into this thread and explain why the national GOP wants to embrace this guy, again?”

Where do I start?
Because we WANT TO WIN THE SENATE!
Because Dingy Harry is as filthy, slimy, disrespectful, dishonest enemy of our constitution as stretch Pelosi!
Because Claire and the Senate helped pass Obamamamamcare - to ruin the best health care systems in the world to appease The Won’s desire for nationalization of 1/6th of the economy!
Because Claire M is a disgusting human being!
Because Claire IS a lapdog for the Democraps!
Because her husband just closed a deal in the SENATE cafeteria! And what was he doing THERE? Peddling influence.
Because Claire helped put and supports the EPA job killing regulations and thinks that's just fine!
AAAAAACH! Let's get behind this guy AND every other GOP running against a Dem.
It's our country and our constitution that is at stake like never before in this great nation! Please reconsider your support of this man.

Then it will mean that the GOP has blown far more winnable races than this one.

Ok, explain this to me: Just HOW is he comparing WOMEN to dogs? As far as I can tell, he was using an analogy to describe McCaskill’s term in DC? And would I call McCaskill a dog? HELL YA! She is one mangy beech!
