President Obama inadvertently reveals his true post-Marxist colors at every turn, but perhaps nowhere more starkly than inhis irresistible impulse to look Americans inthe eye and say, "This isn't about you." What is sometimes (correctly) described as his coldness is, more precisely, the lifelong leftist's pathological habit of converting concrete human lives into an abstract, "composite" humanity which, tohis corrupted intellect, seems more real than life itself. Examples of this reality-defying collectivist mechanism abound in Obama's public statements. Consider the first question of the second presidential debate. A twenty-year-old college student, Jeremy Epstein, asks, "What can you say to reassure me, but more importantly my parents, that I will be able to sufficiently support myself after I graduate?" Both candidates, naturally, use the opportunity to discuss their broader ideas for encouraging job growth and an affordable college education. Mitt Romney, however, personalizes his answer to demonstrate his appreciation of the real-life predicament of his questioner, with remarks like, "I want you to be able to get a job," "I know what it takes to make sure that you have the kind of opportunity you deserve," and "I'm going to make sure that when you graduate... when you come out in 2014... you get a job." (Emphasis added.) Faced with the same real live human being, Obama's collectivizing instinct kicks in, producing the following remarks (emphasis added): The fact that you're making an investment in higher education is critical -- not just to you, but to the entire nation. The fact that you're going to college is great, but I want everybody to get a great education. We've worked hard to make sure that student loans are available for folks like you -- but I also want to make sure that community colleges are offering slots for workers to get retrained....

This is not unique to “O”.
The standard Liberal mind set is, that we are all one mass of undifferentiated being.
Their entire agenda is to force this laughably unrealistic and illogically classless, social monstrosity into being. They have, and will continue to steam-roll all and everything just to force this one-dimensional, unworkable and impossible Utopianism into place.
A homogeneousness of culture, humanity, social conditions, scope of opportunity, etc... is their ultimate goal.
Wherever this has been attempted, it invariably erodes and corrupts the character and validity of the individual. Soulless people with the all the spirit of a blasted tree trunk, inhabit a culturally sterile and ethically stunted society.
Talk about Zombies!! This kind of wholly featureless, existential nightmare would NEVER produce a Michelangelo, an Edison, a Jefferson, etc.

Absolutely true, and characteristic of the left. This is what narcissists do - objectify those around them. Obama, and a huge swath of leftist politicians, gravitate to ‘progressivism’ because it allows them to be the important caretakers of the homogeneous masses. They don't want you to be equal to them.

I know this is the kind of language you get when you're running an election on the "President as National Big Daddy" principle, but I still don't like it. Unless Mr. Romney is promising to hire the young man personally, he cannot ensure his employment.
So in a sense, we do need impersonal language, about the systemic factors that encourage or discourage private-sector employment, and about the government's destroying the incentives to hire or to work.
If a candidate wanted to be both personal *and* realistic, he could mention that the student's choice of his major field of study has a significant effect on his employment possibilities and expected compensation. Studying engineering, kid?

I don’t know if true, but I heard Romney told the kid after the debate that he would personaly make an effort find that kid a job.
If it is true, it’s evidence that Mr. Romney is a nice person, but also indicates that this is a country of cronyism and connections, now, rather than one with a system that generates opportunity for those who are diligent and make themselves qualified.
Where’s the politician that will tell the truth that it is up to YOU to solve this crisis? Being the best individual you can be and not dependence on the ‘collective’ creates a better society.

The kid asked Romney if he would give him a job, and Romney said “maybe”. Then the kid spoke to Obama, not about a job, but about sports, where Obama told him that he (Obama) would beat him (the kid) one-on-one. The kid disagreed. Why didn’t the kid ask Obama the same question? I think it’s because he already knew the answer would be some version of “no”. I hope that kid is smart enough to vote for Romney.
