A photograph of a 93-year-old Second World War veteran casting what will likely be his last ballot has captured the hearts of tens of thousands of Internet users. The photo shows Frank Tanabe lying in a hospital bed at home as his daughter Barbara Tanabe helps him fill out his absentee ballot. A half-million people saw the picture on the website Reddit after his grandson posted it there on Thursday, making it one of the most popular items on the social media network for a day after. "True Patriotism," was the top rated comment on the post. "This is America. Amen," was next, followed by "Thank you, Citizen."

God bless you, sir.
The greatest generation.
Let us not let the torch fall.
I honor my father for his army airforce WW2 service by voting every chance I can get
I would be shocked if this Patriot is casting his ballot for Baraq Hussein 0bama, so it will probably be conveniently "misplaced".
My 91 yr old mom, WWII Army vet will be voting for Romney.
I hope he will be around to vote again. If not, his kids need to make sure his name is off the rolls so the democrats dont vote for him.
I would never, never say that someone is casting his “last ballot”. At least until the death panels come into being, I believe that lives have a natural course and it is not for us to presume to know when they will end.
According to the article, he is in hospice care and rapidly fading—they are worried that he might die before election day and that in that case his vote won’t be counted.
I did not know that. What happens if many of those who have already voted, happen to die, car wreck, shot, etc...
Who keeps track of that? Just wondering.
Well in that case, he's definitely not a Democrat.
If the authorities have been officially notified of the death, the ballot is supposed to be excluded. Conveniently in 2008 the authorities in Hawaii had not been officially notified of Obama’s grandmother’s death so they were able to count her ballot although she died before election day.
If I were a child of that VET, I would have kept quiet, I know honesty and all that, but we are in a WAR and this is that gent's last.
We recently returned from a trip to Normandy, where we visited the D-Day beaches and the American cemetery. I still get teary-eyed when I think of “The Boys of Pointe du Hoc”, and the millions of brave young Americans, British, Canadians, and Australians who sacrificed so much for our freedom.
Normandy, if you think about it, wasn’t just about sacrifice. It was also a remarkable reflection on American industry and ingenuity. The production, the planning, the willpower, inventions.... An absolutely massive undertaking. Now, they didn’t have the EPA, OSHA, and such groups conspiring against them...
He is a Japanese-American who was attending the University of Washington when he was ordered to the internment camp at Tule Lake, California, and volunteered to serve while there despite the fact that his family business had been torched.
I once worked for someone who had been interned at Tule Lake when she was a very small child. Her older brother was so embittered that he later left the US and went to live in Japan. This man is the opposite--a true patriotic American in spite of the discrimination he experienced.
