New details are emerging surrounding the critical injury of a Winnsboro, LA woman set on fire in a city park on Sunday night.
Sharmeka Moffit, 20, is in critical condition at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport.
At a news conference held just before Noon Monday, authorities confirmed Moffitt called 911 around 8 p.m. Sunday from Civitan Park, telling them she had been attacked and burned by three men in white hoodies. Authorities also confirm that there were racial slurs spray-painted on her car, although they did not specify what racial slurs were used.
In addition to Winnsboro Police and the Franklin Parish Sheriff's Department, the Louisiana State Police, the FBI and the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating. Winnsboro police say they will be tightening security at the park as a result of the incident.
According to KSLA, the story went viral Sunday evening on Twitter and Facebook. Many of the posts speculated the attack was a hate crime. However, the sheriff's office confirmed with KSLA News 12 that Moffitt was not wearing a President Obama t-shirt, despite claims on social media that the t-shirt is what provoked the attack.

I’m going to claim to be the first to call this a hoax, but I bet while I’m typing this, several other people will beat me to it.

The claim on social media that the attack was sparked by her wearing an Obama t-shirt, when she wasn’t wearing an Obama t-shirt, tells us that at the very least the attack has been politicized since it happened. Whether it’s another staged event, like so many in the past, who knows? The boy has cried “Wolf!” so many times...
BUT WAS SHE WEARING A ROMNEY TEE-SHIRT?............
If a woman is critically burned, SOMEthing happened. Of course, we don't know what, or by who. It could be a drug or gang related hit with a wrinkle to attempt to throw off the police.
The investigation will hopefully catch the guys who did it. It's hard to believe she'd do it to herself. Self-immolation had its day in Asia, but was never popular in the U. S.
The setting-on-fire could be a domestic dispute or a fight among former friends, but the unspecified “racial slurs” spraypainted on her car take the probability that she did it herself (oops) into the 95% range.
How would a random attacker know which car was hers, and just happen to have spray paint to hand? Some people seem to imagine that armed robbers and loser thugs coincidentally always have the right color of spray paint with them, and plenty of time to carefully, in the dark, spraypaint just the most offensive thing.

I doubt this was "staged." One hallmark of most previous staged political/hate crimes is that they involved no injuries, or at worst minor injuries. This woman was set on fire and is in critical condition - hardly similar to previous fake "attacks."
Of course, that doesn't mean that this attack was racially or politically motivated, just that it doesn't look staged...
Critically burned but still called 911 to report it. I’m not sure what critical condition means within the context of burns.
The story going viral within hours, while she would still have been in the hospital, seems strange too. If there were people to witness it (who then reported in social media) then why didn’t they do anything to stop it? Or why didn’t they report it instead of her calling 911 herself, while she was in critical condition?
I don’t know what happened, but there are some things that don’t quite add up.

Set herself on fire???? A woman...yep, being scarred for the rest of her life is what every crazy woman dreams of. Even when killing themselves women shoot themselves in the heart rather than the head unlike men..... vanity.
"KKK" on her car has been confirmed. I'm skeptical.
The newsbabe in the second video reporting from the hospital didn’t at least ask the cops what race the attackers were? You would think she would........especially in light of the fact that the three of them were wearing white hoodies. That would eliminate either 30 or 70% of the population as potential perpetrators.
I think it’s possible that the setting-on-fire didn’t work out as planned. Activities involving fire often don’t.
Who knows; maybe she went along with plan; and things just got 'out of control'. WE know; those who 'play' with fire. . .
They may have been wearing sheets; but 'surely' Sharmeka knows. . .
