The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill has removed the word “freshman” from official university documents, citing as their reason an attempt to adopt more “gender inclusive language.”
We are “committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our community,” reads a statement administrators sent to Campus Reform on Wednesday.

I guess UNC will remove the words 'HUMAN', 'MANKIND', 'MANUFACTURE', 'MANAGE' and any words with MAN in them...

If UNC is like most US universities, its freshman class is now almost 60% female. So if there is an inclusiveness problem, one wonders who suffers from it.
“rookie”?, “noob”?, “soon to die from alcohol poisoning”?
Let’s just pray the UNC is waaaay on the other side of how NC votes in two weeks... Speaking of which - what the hell is wrong with Ohioans that they keep polling like it’s a tight race? My in-laws tell me that Ohio should be an easy 6 point win for Mitt, but they’ve had me working on them since I married one of theirs in ‘92... The rest of the State might not be as enlightened.
I believe that they call them plebes at the Point.
The politically correct dictionary already consider that years ago. They replaced every female related word that contained "men" with "fem". Now you have "wofem" and PFS. No more "seminars" without an equal number of "ovulars".
I work for a couple of prominent Women’s Colleges. They both dropped Freshmen for “first year” several years ago.
It’s not offensive, and it actually describes the status pretty accurately.
It’s really not a big deal.
