Vermont ski resort unveils gondola powered entirely by cow manure

Ski and snowboard season for the Northeast opens in just a few weeks. And when it does, a Vermont ski area plans to unveil a gondola powered entirely by cow manure.

Killington Resort in central Vermont has partnered with Green Mountain Power to convert manure from nearby dairy farms to electricity for its K-1 Express Gondola. The so-called "Cow Power" program uses manure from 10,000 cows producing 300,000 gallons of manure per day.

"Easily the coolest thing you can possibly do with cow manure," the power company's website declares. "The short version is that we take cow manure, work some magic, turn it into methane, and then use that methane to generate electricity."

They could power Boston with the manure that comes out of Montpelier (the state capital).

And yes, I live here (hubby is a native, won’t leave).

Good marketing. This will bring in greenie skiers. They are hoping to draw in greenie one-percenters (from NY and Boston) who will splash some serious cash around and who will actually tip “the help”

...manure from 10,000 cows producing 300,000 gallons of manure per day.

Each cow really produces 30 gallons of manure per day?

I was on a gondola ascending Mt. Killington in 1978.A friend lit a cigarette and discarded the match under a seat where it ignited candy wrappers. The fire grew and put us in danger of noxious smoke inhalation, being consumed in the flames and then falling from a great height. Fortunately that was before I quit drinking and I and another were able to utilize a skill perfected in childhood.. We played fire man!

Anyone else find it ironic that the author of an article on manure is named Stableford? LOL

I read this years ago on a bumper sticker, back when the tree huggers decided to mix “gray” water into the snow making mix; “Killington - Where the Affluent Meet the Effluent”. The bumper sticker had a shadow figure using toilet plungers for ski poles. LMAO
